Wow, no roll call yet. It's a little after 1:30pm Cali time, so I better do my part.
I woke up today
Breathing
Not unhappy
In fact, quite excited
Well, excited is a relative term
I have a relative and their last name is excited
Surprisingly no expression on their face, ever
You know the type, when they laugh, their mouth goes from a frown to straight
Yet, a muffled laughing sound comes out of their mouths
And they wiggle their head up and down
But no smile
Freaky

QOTD:
What is the best and most entertaining cover band you have ever seen?

I'm going to see Dread Zeppelin tonight. It's become a yearly ritual with my friends and band mates. It's a dinner show, so the wives, girlfriends, etc also enjoy it. Very humorous, creative and tight. They do a great show if you ever get the chance.

edit: I mean tribute band.

Happy Bastille Day!

I don't see many cover bands... although one Halloween a bunch of local bands did covers of 80s bands, and the group that covered The Cars did a very excellent job.

Also I really like The Cars.

I'm going to go and try to work on my "dance hit" now. So far today I've managed to loll around, drink coffee, and paw through clothes at the goodwill. Super productive, huh?!

Having another day. I think I mentioned that the air conditioning at my mom's broke down again (different symptoms) a couple days ago, and the A/C service company was closed Friday for a death in the family. The service guy came back today and discovered that one of the parts he installed last time was overheating and shutting down, so he replaced that with a new one, and unless we get over there this evening and it's 90 in the house, we think we've got things settled there sufficiently for the next few days while we're in Mexico.

One of the four of us who was going on the Mexico trip just called up and cancelled, but we have made contact with the people in Mexico and we think we won't have to take two separate cars, we'll be able to get the computers across on Sunday afternoon. And our niece from California arrived safely, so she'll be there to help out. And the foster dog has been delivered to doggie day care, and, umm... we're getting it together. The Mrs. is, anyway, I'm just mopping up little side messes so she can focus on the Mexico trip.

Best cover band would be the No Hobo Band, here in the Phoenix area, a local Grateful Dead cover band. A Deadhead friend and I went to go see them fairly regularly several years ago, but I'm not sure if they're even together any more. Got to see the Dark Star Orchestra one time (with the real Vince sitting in), they were good too.

Niv: My condolences.

In 12 hours I will be at the airport waiting for my flight to SFO for those job interviews. Eep.

I just bought a bunch of sketchbooks so I have something to do during my downtime there. I have this crazy idea of doing an autobiographical but metaphorical comic about my last two years. I don't know how much of it I'd be able to get done while there, especially since I'll have plenty of other stuff to do and it's not like the flight from Seattle is very long. But I can at least sketch things out and get my metaphors straight. (Obviously it'll be about an excursion along the Amazon. Also our internal code names totally lend themselves to plot points.)

QotD: I haven't seen many cover bands live (I had an opportunity to see the Hell's Belles but I missed out), but I'm a fan of Troublemint (a now-defunct band which did punk-ish covers of 60s pop), and I appreciate (though don't really find myself a fan of) Beatallica. I think the only truly themed cover band I've ever seen performed is As Seen On TV, who opened for Optimus Rhyme one night. Also when I was in college I won tickets to see Page/Plant when they were touring back in '95 (holy crap that was 12 years ago?! fucking hell), and they mostly played Led Zeppelin songs. Does that count?

Oh! I just remembered... I DO have a favorite cover band! I know I've mentioned them before, but The Dead Hensons are really worth seeing.

(Particularly if you are in your mid-30s and grew up on Sesame Street and the Muppet Show. I've never seen a more giddy club full of hipsters grinning from ear to ear...except maybe once when Walt Mink covered Free to Be You and Me.)

HaHa, I've never heard them before.

By the way, I said What's your favorite cover band, when I should have said "Tribute" band.
