Ugh I hate rain.

Hey Roll Callers. It's raining here in NYC and I hate it. Then again, if I could live in a meteorologically homogenous society, I probably would. Give me a bubble! Other than that, it's a normal workday with some Harry Potter reading thrown in and later some playing on the Wii. (I want more Miis! :) )

Question of the Day:
As a dad, I see that my kids growing up lack something that I had and that is the joy of cartoon comedy. They get some okay stuff in there but it's nothing like watching Looney Tunes or Woody Woodpecker or even later stuff like Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. So my question today is- What are your some of your favorite cartoon comedy moments? I left that wide open so that if you feel the desire, you can add in some of the more adult-oriented cartoon comedies like the Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, etc.

And feel free to post links.

My answer:

You should probably be investigating leaving the East for the Southern Cali or the SW. I hear it's pretty damned consistent there!

I love the rain. (If you were practically an albino like I am, you would too!) It's been raining here for the past few days, which is verrry unusual for Portland summers... and I think it's just dandy! Although it is a little on the muggy side.

QOTD: Weeellll.... I love cartoons. It's hard to pick one. I'm a huge sucker for all things Chuck Jones. Holy cow, that man's sense of timing! Required viewing. Fave might be the The Rabbit of Seville

Just got back from six shows in five days. Got in at 7:30am, jumped in and out of the shower, and off to work. Ugh. But this week basically covered costs on the CD, so that's very very good.

QotD: I will be adding to this list. These are the five I thought of first, so I guess they deserve top billing. Amazingly, they were all available on Youtube.

Robin Hood Daffy

Simpsons - Bart Hits Homer With A Chair

Wizards - Fritz, Get Up!

Bambi Meets Godzilla

Grasshoppers

I'll second Miss-M's choice of all things Chuck Jones, and The Rabbit of Seville.

A close second is Pepe Le Pew when he climbs over a transom in calm pursuit of his love whispering something like "our love has no boundaries...". I can't access quote sites since my company doesn't think Pepe is appropriate to view at this moment :(

QotD: My favorite line from a Bugs Bunny cartoon was from the dark, scary episode where Peter Lorre did the voice of the creepy mad scientist... Ya know, the one with the giant orange hairy creature (Mortimer I think his name was).

When Bugs was lured into the castle by the mechanical robot, for some reason, my favorite line is when the Lorre-voiced Mad Scientist said "I have another friend who would like to eat... I mean, meet you..."
"Out of all I've learned in Life,
You always keep your friends close to your heart,
cause they'll help you if you're falling down..."

Another tough QOTD- I love the war era Warner Brothers cartoons especially, but if forced to pick one cartoon moment it might have to be when the Grinch smiles that wicked smile before taking off to Who-ville. Just beautiful.

Wiley E. "Super Genius" Coyote's blink of realization before gravity kicks in (or whenever a plan of his goes tits-up).

And again, there's the Chuckster in action.

The old "Thinker" bits were a good commentary on post-industrial/consumer society, too, IMO.

Where's the subversion today? Guess we'll have to take it into our own hands, eh?

Don't really remember too much from my cartoon-watching days, but I did always like the Roadrunner cartoons, long before I had any idea I'd end up in Arizona.

Niv: well, we have the hot season here, and then we have summer. Seven inches of rain is considered a wet year. C'mon down!

Running errands all morning, mostly... stop in at my mom's with the dogs and several bags of groceries for a while, then an afternoon at home, I hope. At the moment, trying to figure out where the Credit Union office is so I can go by and pay the very large Visa bill which is due today and will incur painful interest charges if not paid in full... waiting to hear from Wages whether version 2 of "So Weird" is what he wants, waiting to hear if my friend Lewis will be available to do the mix for us. Busy, busy, busy.

There's an episode of the Simpsons where the dentist leaves the Nitrous Oxide tank running by accident, and the whole family is high off of it. I thought this was ludicrously funny mostly because the whole family including Maggie, was there.

(I just googled this and found that in the old GI Joe cartoons, N20 was supposedly used as a torture gas...)

Today I accepted the job offer from San Francisco (the salary was lower than I was hoping for but still a very nice step up from my current one) and put in my two weeks' notice at work. No turning back!

Niv, did you get my Mii flood?

QOTD: I just rewatched some of the animated shorts by this guy again recently, and probably some of you out there have seen them, too:

(They don't have the shorts on their site but you can find them on YouTube.)

qotd: Stewie and Brian Griffin discussing the pronunciation of "cool whip." Also many moments from Mission Hill, especially the one with Andy French standing in his underwear, drinking a forty first thing in the morning and saying "At least I have my dignity" while rubbing a booger oh his dog's head.

The Tick! I'm gonna say this one, because it came up in conversation with M whilst making dinner tonight:

Tick: It's your turn now, Thorace-bog.
Thrakkorzog: It's Thrakkorzog. Thrakkorzog. With a K.
Tick: We're only serving humble pie, Whatchamazog.
Thrakkorzog: For the last time, it's...
Tick: Thorax-and-a-bog. Four-yacks-and-a-dog.
Thrakkorzog: No.
Tick: Ah, laxative-log.
Thrakkorzog: No, no, no.
Tick: Sapsucker-frog.
Thrakkorzog: Thrakkorzog.
Tick: Susan?
Thrakkorzog: Now you're doing it on purpose. How juvenile.

Susan? Hahahahaha. My wife is the best.

In other news, no song-a-day post today, I am reading Harry Potter and I am under a spell of Nostopreading, I stayed up till 4:50 AM yesterday and I am very foolish.
