Roll Call

Things in the Niviverse are quiet at the moment, so on to the QotD:

Question of The Day:
Songfight always has an influx of new fighters. Have there been any new fighters in 2007 that have really impressed you? If so, who?

qotd: I really should listen to the fights more than once. I'm in a habit now that if the fight isn't all that great...then even the good songs are forgotten. Recently Boltoph put out a song that I liked alot. He's not new... and I still haven't gone back and listened to the fight or downloaded his tune.

It's me though... I'm just too busy right now to be as detail oriented about songfight than I have been in the past.

MY DAY:
Slower and taking advantage. I'm stiff from helping three different people move stuff in or out of their new or old apartments or condos. (A TV for a smoking hot salesgirl here and then a big plastic storage crate for her hot roomate) Listening to punk on an AOL streaming radio. Flame on.

Does anyone else get what I call "The Songfight Daze", that feeling where you're listening to the fight and you hit 3 or 4 songs in a row that you don't like and you struggle to go on listening to the rest of the fight. I usually equate it to my depression and my struggles with focus because of it. But I wonder, do others here struggle to just get through the weekly fight?

I've got tons to do today.
Need to get some vox recorded tonight
Waiting for important equipment deliveries
Customers saying, "what's taking so long"
Manufacturers saying, "it will go out tomorrow"
Me calling back two days later to get a tracking number
Them saying, "it will go out tomorrow", again
Me making excesses for other people
Oh well, that's life, fuck it. :P

QOTD:
New guys, hmmm. I think that Ham No Burger guy has done some cool stuff, he just needs to step up his production because you can't hear the coolness very good. Shot Pounder is pretty ripp'n and rock my ass. There was a girl that did a couple that were really cool, I can't think of her name, but the first one I heard from her was in the "it belongs to me" fight. I want to say LML, I'll have to go look. Her song comes up in my play list and it rocks me every time I hear it. In fact, I want to ask her if I can do a cover of it, that's how much I like it. Also, Sign Boy puts out some cool stuff. There are a few interesting new guys/girls here.

EDIT:
Yes, her band name is LML and this is the song I'm talking about. > It Belongs To Me

Yeah, I've had that problem too. I haven't even heard a lot of the recent fights, but I did download this week's since I'm in it :)
Yes! Thanks for the reminder BLT, I remember that LML was very good.

Yeah, I hit "stream all" and then I find myself having to minimize my work to forward to the next song only to have to do it again 30 seconds later. Personally, I believe that were starting to fall into a less tolerant state just because we are in a 'I know where this is going' state of of mind. We've heard all of this before. What are minds perceive as 'bad' is more apt to figure it out faster and we're more inclined to do something about it because, well we're a little tired of it I suppose.

The only way to alleviate this problem is to start entering our songs... if we want the ratio to be better, well then we better get our butts motivated and do something about it ourselves!

*Hoblit gets back to work and same ole' rut that keeps him from songfighting more often.

I got a haircut today and it's beeeautiful.

Didn't do much today other than that, although I did watch the Top Gear Polar Expedition episode. Very very funny. I now want to drive to the North Pole. I'm starting to make plans to go to England next spring, so I'm thinking there should totally be a SF:UK while I'm there ;) Tonight is "Who Wants To Be A Superhero" on Sci Fi. I loved Feedback last season, so hopefully this season has some good ones aswell.

QOTD: No idea. Is BLT 2007? He's definitely made an impact on the boards :P I just listen to the stream all once and nothing uuuusually pops out of me.

I know this is '06, but when the megafight came out, Paco del Stinko had only been around for a couple months, and that was the first time I really listened to his stuff, and I was very impressed with "the new guy."

To paraphrase Hoblit: I really should listen to the fights...

So, lessee, today... pool class and lunch at Mimi's with mom. Three or four test mixes of "So Weird," but it's supposed to be on its way to the FMs now. It's cool having somebody else to mix the song who cares as much about the mix as I do about the arrangement and performance :-) Got that classic Wages vocal sound going on, too. "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" was on cable and I wound up watching & digging that.

A couple weeks ago I had gone to the local chapter meeting of the Society for Technical Communication and was talking with someone whose company was looking for somebody to come help "process proof" a bunch of manufacturing procedures for a high-tech optical night vision project. I kinda screwed around and didn't get a resume put together and figured the opportunity had passed me by, but she called yesterday to ask if I might still be interested, so this morning I got a "tech writer" resume assembled and sent off to her. I know that doesn't sound like much, but as somebody who has been unemployed for 4 years now because he is basically panicked at the thought of job hunting, this really is an accomplishment. I am not exaggerating there, this has been a major life struggle for me and I'm rather pleased with myself at having made any sort of forward progress at all...

We are waiting on an article to come in for AFT. It is the last article, but one that the paper can't run without, apparently. So, I sit and wait, and watch the deadline shrink into the distance.

WineTech is this monday, so things are busy getting displays and stuff ready for that. Looks like its another dose of working way after hours again. Hurrah! Relaxing is stupid anyway!

QOTD:
It shames me to say this, but I don't think I have listened to any of this years fights. I know, its borderline blasphemy. Nur Ein got me listening to a few artists that were new to me, my favourite probably being Billy's Little Trip. BLT rocks my socks off!

response: I have the same daze as Niveous. Certain titles attract a certain level of junk with the same obvious interpretation and there's only so much junk you can listen to before you give up on hoping to hear that one awesome pearl.

qotd: I've listened to a few of the fights this year and some of the newbies have impressed me but not enough that I remember their names.

drc: Today I actually did some productive stuff at work, an island in the middle of a bad case of "senioritis" (I'm going to be gone in just over a week after all). Nobody seems to have any questions about my stuff which makes me both glad (that it works well) and uncomfortable (that I'm probably not needed still). Maybe I'll push my last day up to the 31st, just to make it easier to deal with. (As it is, my last day is one day before the annual company picnic which I'm going to miss out on as a result, not that I've ever liked any of them in the past.) I need to find out what the deal is with my insurance coverage though. I also need to get the energy up to clean my condo for a photo shoot Saturday and an open house Sunday. I'm also getting a bit overwhelmed with trying to deal with finding/buying something down in SF. I am so unmotivated. I just want to hibernate for a month and wake up with all this transitional shit taken care of. My brain is already working on problems for my next job even though I keep telling it not to do anything until I'm getting paid for it. Stupid brain.

it seems to me that possibly what people are complaining about here has more to do with the giant one-fight process than the quality or not available. 30 songs in one fight is a much harder listen than say 3 fights of 10 songs, regardless of who's in it.

I have been really impressed by a couple of songs by new fighters this year. Db collective's RATP for instance. Possibly only because it was an unexpected take, of course ....

I've been around since Feb 04. But thanks for the kind words!

Wait, Noob Of The Month Emeritus. That's like the opposite of an honorary degree, right? It's like an honorary 'held back a grade'.

If I'm being mistaken for a n00b, I guess I should fight more often, hmm? Frankly, I'm sick of re-recording old stuff at this point. I'm ready to put the pen to the paper again. Won't be happening this coming fight though. Shame, 'cause I liked the upcoming title.

Wow, glad to have found this gem of a song here. Thanks for the link.
That girl has some talent, shame only submitted 2 songs.
I thought Regular Gonzalez was pretty good, and if BLT is 2007, he's up there also.

Yeah! What happened to LML? We need a more aggressive retention policy for our double-X songfighters! (Chromosomes, that is... not rating) Her "get a life" definitely got my vote in that fight... maybe she'll see this and come back?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking of Klinefelter's Syndrome.

Hey, what about people with Turner's?
