From my knowledge of prog rock - I've always found that it is best mixed by turning all the knobs all the way to the left.

Haha. As a mostly fully recovered former prog rocker, I was going to suggest the "select and delete" approach, but yours was more clever and succinct.

Seriously though Derek, there will be a whole bunch of people, mostly from Canada (the kingdom of prog rock!), who will arrive shortly to give you advice. In the meantime, you can practice switching from 7/8 to 6/8 while you wait.

Welcome Derek.
That's good that you list your music equipment. All good stuff by the way. Now, to answer your recording questions, it would help to know your recording equipment, mics, etc.

Our resident prog rocker, Jolly Roger, just so happens to be a drummer, guitar player and vocalist, so he has come a long way in micing and recording his kit, which is the KEY to good prog rock, and the hardest to record and mix.

Hey! I love seeing the word 'prog' on this forum, unlike many of our residents. If you could pm me links to any of your current mixes, I'd be happy to help you out. Prog is my favorite subject (I just bought genesis 'trespass' today, and it's quickly becoming a favorite).

I'm leaving for vacation today, but I'll be back in a week, if you can wait that long. Glennny is also a good person to ask about prog, if you need any help in the meantime.

I better remedey that by saying:

I love Canadian prog-rock - I think Rush are a far better band that The Rolling Stones, The Clash and The Pixies put together.

My God, I feel so dirty....

Rush was my favorite band for many many years. I was a Geddy Lee sound-alike for most of my high school years and I could play Red Barchetta in my sleep. But we all must grow up eventually, usually upon realizing that Neal Peart's lyrics really aren't that great.

Wow. Rush was never on our prog map. Nor Kansas. Or Marillion. Just never liked them

My brother's friends corrupted me in many ways, but the best was turning me on to King Crimson when I was 11 (soon after Islands was released) simultaneous with his introducing me to some sweet smelling smoke, a marvelous combination. From there it was pretty much pure ELP, Genesis, Yes, Giant, Tull.
