Nothing so far? Come on! Step it up a notch. You can't always rely on restless newbs to generate topics!
I haven't eaten all day, so I've got some turkey burgers out on the grill. I'm not a nutritionist, but in my opinion, protein in the second most important nutrient, and probably the most underrated. So for the QOTD:
What are some of your favorite protein sources? Why? How do you like to prepare them?

This is probably my last day at Traffic.com I quit like a month ago but I've been hanging on because they are short some folk. I'll probably stay on the payroll..but football season has started and I don't want to watch the Buccaneers lose at work every Sunday.
qotd: Beans & Chicken. However, I'm probably guilty of burgers being amongst the higher ranking sources.

QoTD: Anything Mexican so long as there is no guac and little to no cilantro!
I've worked a bit on my A Friendly Reminder today, but really just a little. I did get a better take and I think I've improved the tune a bit. I posted it on the collab thread if anyone is interested. But I'm still feeling quite a bit under the weather, though I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel alive again.
Anyone know a good place in Amsterdam to get good used instruments? I think I might try to acquire something when I'm over there (in just 10 days!!!).

I've been on a diet regimen of my own design for quite a while now. Apparently, beef is bad news (the term metabolic poison gets thrown around a little), at least when it's grain-fed (and it all is, here), but I do love the burger, and if I don't enjoy my diet, I won't stick to it. So I've been using whatever alternatives are available, such as lamb (eats grass), bison (goes both ways, so ask your butcher), chicken, and turkey, and even several different varieties of vegetarian burgers (which never taste like burgers). I don't know what it is about ground meat that I just can't resist. I probably eat a lot more burger now than I did back in my unhealthy days. But now, I look for lean meats, and have some steamed vegetables on the side.Hoblit wrote:qotd: Beans & Chicken. However, I'm probably guilty of burgers being amongst the higher ranking sources.
I think beans are a pretty good deal, but I don't know of a whole lot of ways to actually enjoy them. I do eat hummus on crispbread a lot. I'm assuming that the protein profile in rye and chickpeas is similar enough to that in wheat and beans that those make a good combo. To synthesize the legume and burger idea, Alton Brown gave out a recipe on Good Eats for some split pea burgers, and those are probably some of the best vegetarian burgers out there (and the peas and brown rice ought to work well together, amino acid-wise), and if you make it according to his recipe, they're actually vegan. But something about the idea of vegan food just makes my meal less enjoyable, so I always put cheese on them.

Guac doesn't actually taste bad, but there's absolutely no reason I want to eat a green paste. It just doesn't have any appeal to me. Who the hell thought that stuff was a good idea? I'm alright with cilantro, but it can be overpowering at times, if there's too much. If you go to a Mexican restaurant, they've usually got you covered on the protein, since they're going to give you some kind of meat with cheese, inside corn, with rice and beans over on the side, not to mention a bit in the sour cream. I think the lettuce and tomato is the only part that's lacking in that department, and that's got other stuff you need.Wages wrote:QoTD: Anything Mexican so long as there is no guac and little to no cilantro!

My song is coming along as quickly as I thought it might, and I'm wondering if I want to combine the bit of lyrics I have with this simple wuss rock riff I've had sitting around for a little bit. It almost works, but I'm not sure...
Do you know what the deal is with the pot bars? I heard they were cracking down or something, which sounds totally ridiculous... Why are you going to Amsterdam, anyway?

No clue. We always wanted to go to Europe, and we found a great deal on a houseboat in Amsterdam, so we took it. Airfare is so cheap there that we can fly to various airports in the UK, and from there, just about anywhere for under $100 round trip, and it's quick too.Lord of Oats wrote:Do you know what the deal is with the pot bars? And to relax. The last year at work has included tremendous increases in responsibilities, new employees, and lOtS of stress! I manage around 6 to 10 employees in any given day, and sometimes all 20. And we take ALL mistakes very seriously. It's my job to tell everyone what they are doing wrong and how to do it right. And to negotiate compromises between people/departments. And so on and so forth. EDIT: As you may well imagine, it's very stressful to do all that plus try to do my own job (answering dozens of emails...in detail; my emails at work put my posts on the forum to shame!, fixing all sorts of problems: dissatisfied customers, dealing with consignors, "can you leave me feedback?", "why do you charge such high shipping?", "the image is wrong on this auction", blah, blah, blah).
So, yeah, just to relax and have fun for three weeks. Oh, and Oktoberfest.

I've sort of wanted to go to Europe for a while now, but I don't typically have the money or the desire to vacation. I might like to go if I had someone I really wanted to go with, but that's not a reality at this point.
I'm not really a huge pot fan, but I don't think the trip would really be complete without at least one visit. But listening to Patton Oswalt will do that to you. I've also acquired a desire to eat at a Black Angus and play 80's metal, thanks to Feelin' Kinda Patton-era performances.

I love quac and cilantro. But I've noticed that other parts of the country have some gross tasting green goop that they call guacamole. But here, it's real avocados.
I don't like fish much, although I do eat shark, swordfish and halibut. So my protein is pretty much chicken and beans. I make a mean turkey meatloaf.

England winning something! WTF! Who'd have thought that could happen.
(BTW: Even I don't think the Wallabies are up to it this year - Can I pretend to be a Kiwi for the next few weeks? I mean I actually live closer to Aukland than I do to Perth. And I like sheep. I really do. I'd just rather see anyone - even the All Blacks - win rather than England again )[/i]

I don't mean to ruin your day, but according to my information, shark and swordfish are both on the 'watch the hell out' list for mercury contamination. So you might want to be careful with those. Although there is some sketchy evidence that cilantro may be able to chelate mercury and remove it from the body, making it apparently the only food that's any good at that. The leading research on this says that some substances in food can mobilize mercury, but it's rarely successfully eliminated, and is much peskier than other heavy metals in this way. So I don't really go out of my way to eat any fish. I really did like cilantro a lot, until I overused it in a millet salad. I've got a little more respect for it now. It's needs to be used moderately to not overwhelm the palate. I'd love to try your meatloaf, but I don't think I can make the cross-country trip. What do you put in it? Or is that a secret?Billy's Little Trip wrote:I love quac and cilantro. But I've noticed that other parts of the country have some gross tasting green goop that they call guacamole. This is the weirdest roll call so far I think.
I'm back from Nebraska. It was as fun as Nebraska could ever be and my little sweetie was such a good girl. I'm super tired and about to go to bed. I have a lot of mosquito bites. I hope to get reviews done sometime soon. Yep. Goodnight!

I just don't know anything about nutrition. I don't think it's boring. I just like making smartass comments. I usually eat things like microwave dinners by Michelina because they're cheap. I eat a lot of rice in various forms. Rice noodles are good. I like Asian food (in general) a lot, so I eat a lot of that. I eat meat, but not beef. I don't like the idea of eating cows. Birds don't bother me. I eat turkey sandwiches. I also eat bananas and sometimes canned pears or mandarin oranges. I don't eat much in the way of vegetables. I eat waffles for breakfast. No dairy ever though, unless it's like one piece of cheese on a sandwich from the store or a restaurant. That is how I eat. I hope it was interesting. I don't know what these things mean in terms of nutrition.Lord of Oats wrote:There are probably better ways of telling me you think nutrition is a boring topic.
