Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

This is a new thing since last I frequented these parts.

I guess I could complain about my schedule, but I haven't quite gotten tired of it yet. A little over a week ago I started a new job as the 11pm-7am concierge at a high rise condo in downtown nashville. it's pretty awesome because, as you can tell, i can do shit like this. i'm also watching the science channel!
i also work at a PF Changs, but it's like 2 hours a day rolling silverware and listening to my ipod, so that can barely be considered work.
soon i will be rich.
so i guess you guys'll be seeing more of me again. I can't guarantee i'll be doing any submissions any time soon, but i'll at least be a little more active on the boards than i have been the past couple of years. hopefully that'll be a good thing.

QotD:

I'm watching the 'Walking With [...]' series (hosted by Alec Baldwin?!) and I guess my question is this:

How awesome is evolution?

My answer: pretty awesome. the processes and the vast amount of time it's taken to get to us is mind boggling. you can track the evolution of my inability to continue to capitalize throughout a post in a matter of seconds, though!

Roll Call

Oh yes, another day. for me its the SOS

QOTD:

Oh it would be so awesome. If only it were true.

But as we all know, everything was created exactly as it is about 10,000 years ago. Then about 6000 years ago there was a flood.

Man I gotta stop watching these damn Hovind videos

Evolution definitely takes place over the long haul, as I don't feel too far off from a monkey, at least intellectually. I'm a lot less hairy, though. I don't see why things couldn't have turned out the way they did, by chance, given the supposed size and age of the universe.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

That was unnecessary. Things obviously evolve. Besides, all Christians don't necessarily believe that so literally. How come both can't be believed? To me, science is only the explanation of HOW God gets things done.

question: how did you get to Tampa?
answer: I flew here.

reaction: YOU FLEW HERE? Thats amazing! Wow...
explanation: Well, I got into an airplane that was designed to lift off the ground and travel through the air for a period of time before landing at another destination.

***

question: How was the universe created
answer: God made it.

reaction: COOL... thats amazing... wow
answer: Well, first there was this mass, then it broke apart with this explosion and then...

I basically only went to see Evolution because Julianne Moore was in it, and I think she's hot. The movie was as I expected: unawesome and very, very bad.

Then you have to define God. If God = AS YET UNKNOWN PROCESS then fine. Once you start assigning some supernatural "being" to the word "God" which has some conscious "plan" and "moral reason" for all existence (and this is somehow a fact because "we can't possibly understand all this in our little human brains") then you enter the realm of fiction. Which is cool, but call a spade a spade. Until we have some shred of positive proof to the contrary. Then call it whatever is appropriate at that stage. Though I like spades and what they stand for in this context.

God + Science. Interesting. Just don't go all Scientologist on us, Hoblit. We don't need you jump on our couchs screaming about how much you love Songfight.

QotD:
Evolution is bothersome. It asks for a Solipsist to believe that the world started with a big bang and not the day that I woke up.

I missed your description of your shoulder problem, but I waited 2 months to see an orthopedic surgeon for a shoulder injury (tennis - go figure). Turns out I tore my rotator cuff, and x-rays showed no other issues. There's little to do except protect it from further aggravation (like reaching overhead, to the back of shelves, washing your back, etc.) The check-up hurt a lot, and hasn't quite settled down to where it was before going in, but I at least feel more informed, though still in pain. It's hard not to use an arm.

So, Jim (I'm rambling on, I know) if your insurance allows, go see someone just to be sure, if that puts your mind at ease.

He didn't say anything about "all Christians". Just Hovind -- who I'm sure wouldn't disagree with the characterization.

There's a wonderful Dan Bern song called NO MISSING LINK:

How else explain pay at the pump?
How else explain limited access freeways?
How else explain digital remastering?
Plastic flowers, linoleum, beefalo, Michael Jordan?
Religion?

I'm afraid that his post only added Hovind as an after thought to the 'creationist slant' he painted first. However, being that he did not actually use the word Christians therefore the collective 'all Christians' angle, you are right. Perhaps I'm a little defensive at the sarcasm for believing any angle that opposes evolution as absolute. For that I apologize.

Fixed

Evolution has really evolved, which is a good thing, otherwise everything would be stagnant and even worse, "God forbid", regressive.
