October 16, 2007 (Boss's Day!?)

Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

October 16, 2007 (Boss's Day!?)

Post by wages »

QoTD: Why do we need a Boss's Day? Isn't EVERY work day Boss's Day? ("Yeah, I'm going to need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday..")

I think we don't. And while we're at it, let's get rid of President's Day and Columbus Day... I hate going to the damned Post Office and it's closed!

BTW I am getting ready to purchase "Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred 9.0", but before I do, does anyone have a retail version (of Preferred or Professional) they would like to sell me?

:) In my line of work, if I need a day off, I just take it. Damn feds. Telling people when they can and can't take a day off. :P

Hey, here's the Roll Call thread!

I practiced with a new band last night. I got to sing Creep, and Ace Of Spades, and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and Lump, and some Ramones songs. It was fun. My Lemmy impression isn't so good, but the rest went well.

QotD: I don't even know what that program is. Sorry.

Hah, I said the same thing. Leave it to the gumment to come up with such a weirdly inappropriate "acronym." (It isn't really even an acronym)

Yeah, how disappointing. It was probably the idea of a half baked intern who thought it would be funny if they adopted the suggested name without realizing its undertones. (at least thats what *I* would like to think)

Also wages I'm totally down with getting rid of Columbus day. That IS a stupid holiday. Essentially celebrating one of the biggest jerks in history who claimed Florida for Spain before bothering with the local inhabitants who wondered who the hell he was and where he came from.

I'll bet that Boss's didn't come up with Boss's day. The last thing a Boss wants is a reason for his employees to lollygag. Ass kissers and slackers came up with Bosses day. "We need another day off. I know, we'll call it Boss's day. They'll be none the wiser."
note to self. Use the word lollygag more often.

I was going to draw an image of a guy gagging on a lollipop, but then I lost patience. :(

The rain & hail (?!?!) is obviously affecting the anticipated spreading of the "dirty" detritus through the expected areas. Rain, in Portland?

Let's go swimming in the Willamette instead!

I am now entirely car-free (though I have signed up for both Zipcar and FlexCar... each one's annual fee is so little and they have a different selection of cars so I figure I'd might as well cover my bases).

For the social gallivanting sans cargo, I think I'll buy an electric bike, or maybe a moped. No need for one to commute though.

Fluffy, mopeds are fun. You should get a bad ass helmet with skulls and flames on it and a killer leather jacket with a big ol embroidered patch on the back of the SONG FIGHT logo. :P

Oh yeah! The Willamette puts the "fun" in "superfund!"

Evidently, our famous rain *did* save us from radiological mayhem! I got periodic updates on the "airborne toxic event" throughout the day because I work at one of the major hospitals in the area. This one tickled my fancy:
There is a plume traveling toward OHSU, however:

Because of the rain, most contamination will fall out before the plume arrives at OHSU.
AHHHH! PLUUUUME!

I started working on my brakes at 4:00 this afternoon, worked until an hour ago, and accomplished nothing.

I think I breathed in that plume. You know the scenes of John Coffey in the Green Mile when he exhales the bad stuff, well I think I did just the reverse with your plume. I've been sick since Saturday with the whole coughing achy head pounding eye hurting no appetite and don't even want to drink booze, thing. But I've had too much work to take a rest. I NEVER get sick....
.....stupid PLUUUUME!
