QOTD: If someone hands you a flier for a band you've never heard of, would you consider going to the show? Why or why not?

In a fit of curmudgeondom, I recently refused to even TAKE a band flier from a bunch of youngsters down from B.C. I later felt bad. I used to be more willing to check out unknown quantities.

How about some links? I'm lazy.

I generally won't check out a band that isn't in some way related to my musical circle, unless they are highly recommended.
Now with that said, my musical circle involves a huge diversity. I have friends that are music instructors, sound and stage crews, club owners, promoters, etc. So when one of them calls me and asks me to check out the new fill in the blank, I will generally go, unless I just can't make it because of a prior commitment.

QOTD: If it's not rap, I consider it. I usually don't go, but the occasional novice metal show is cool. If they brag a lot while giving me the flyer (or if their flyer advertises 'THE NEW BAND YOU SIMPLY MUST LISTEN TO - YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED'), I just throw it out without looking further at it.

qotd: No. I've been there too. Passing out little pieces of garbage for everyone to throw away. Its like handing someone a piece of paper and saying "here, you throw this away". (Got that bit from some stand up comic I barely remember)

Fliers are great for promotion though. It may not get a stranger to come out to that show BUT... it does plant a seed. They may see another flier for your band down the road..somewhere else, in a window, on a pole... your b(r)and name is getting out there. Then finally comes the day when the stranger will 'hear your b(r)and's name. They'll say "{band name here} is awesome you should check them out!" or "Dude, have you heard of {band name here}?".

Thats when they'll say "Yeah, I've heard of them". THATS when the stranger will start feeling compelled to go out and see your band.

Taping a flyer to a post near a crosswalk is the best way I've seen.
