Why do programmers have a hard time differentiating between Christmas and Halloween?
Because 25 Dec = 31 Oct.
Merry Christmas everyone. Even if (like me) you're not Christian. Hooray!
qotd: Get any fun presents?

Happy seasonal... stuff.
qotd: I got a 2 book set of all the beatles songs in sheet music, some candles, bath towels, and a... case of beer from the upstairs neighbor. I guess this means I should light some candles, drink beer, and play beatles songs on my guitar. Don't know where the towels come into play though.

I have to be at work at 5am. My choice really...decided to pick up shifts at traffic.com and ...well, got one or two. I haven't really slept though. Anxiety about being able to wake up 4am has basically prevented me from falling asleep in the first place.
qotd: YES! I got my Christmas wish from a daily roll call 'qotd' on this very subject! (mp3 player... Bonus: with video)

Hoblit: I was actually going to PM you for a mailing address to send an old, scratched up 30GB iPod Video to. I replaced it with a Creative Zen Vision:M and haven't used it in ages, and when I read your mp3 player woes, it touched me. In an impure manner. But now, you have one anyway, so *phew* dodged a bullet there!

6:47am and the kids aren't awake yet. It's a Christmas miracle! I hear the baby stirring though, so the bomb is gonna drop in a few minutes.
Happy holidays!
EDIT: 7:05am - it begins!

Yay to one and all.
Along with it being Jesus day (bah humbug n all that) it is also Moses birthday. I bought her a record player. Awesome. Spent the morning listening to Fields of the Nephilim as it was intended.
All from the vinyl. We have the most excellent collection of proper records.
Does anyone remember records??

HEY THANKS for the thought though, I do appreciate that. My brother has been talking about sending me an mp3 player from one of his Ebay expeditions but then never did. (Hey, maybe you can sell your old one on Ebay?) I finally, FINALLY have one of my own BRAND NEW. I'm probably way more excited about it than I should be but I can't wait to start using it.Märk wrote:Hoblit: I was actually going to PM you for a mailing address to send an old, scratched up 30GB iPod Video to. ... In other news, I've been working since 5am and there has only been one (reported) accident...a fender bender on a small road in a small town in the last four hours. (Well, in the counties I'm covering today...but I'm covering the more populated ones today)

Xmas with the in-laws (to be) is apparently a fairly simple tradition: wake up, open gifts in our pajamas, and don't leave the house all day.
I got a lot of candy in my stocking, a couple of nice new shirts, two ties, a new wallet, and two Monopoly spin-off games (Bookopoly and the Simpsons version), a glass chess set, a Chipotle gift card, a Borders gift card, and a copy of A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Not a bad year. Still, I somewhat envy the two little kids that I'll soon be able to call "cousins" who got Khet. I helped them learn it, and played the first game with them. Maybe I'll run out and get myself a copy. I love games like that.
Oh, and Allyson got a Nintendo DS with Nervous Brickdown and Brain Academy. I guess I should finally go pick up one for myself now, so we can do multiplayer stuff, and pictochat, and all that other cool stuff that geeky couples are supposed to do. 8)
Not a bad Xmas, for a Jew.
Gotta love it when the DRC and the QotD are the same.

QOTD:
I got some cool stuff. My favorite though would have to be my Oakley Thump2. Such a great invention. Plus they are bad ass looking and I always wear shades anyway. They only have 1gig of memory, but that's roughly 240 songs, which is good enough for me.

QOTD: The full series of G1 Transformers, and Transformers Monopoly. Yes! Going round the parents house this Saturday for dinner and a rousing family game of Transformers Monopoly.
I also managed to score Thank God Your Here Series 3 from my parents. Contains possibly the best scenario Shaun Micallef is ever involved in, and Ross Noble is in it too. Ace.

Merry Christmas! Okay, I'm late, but oh well. I got a new game called Theophrastus, and some books (incl one of Wil Wheaton and one of Terry Pratchett) and CD (Bluetech, one of the ones from my Pandora station I created using my own music as the seed). Yeah!

Good God, I need to catch up on board reading.
Anyhoo, I got a really sweet "program-able" music box from my brother that takes player-piano-piano type punch strips. It comes with blank sheets and a hole punch.
It is featured here on thinkgeek:

Neato stuff!
He also got me a gun that shoots smoke rings.
(Did I mention that my family is all nerds?)

Yeah!
I got a pair of drumsticks from my fiance with "Boltoph" engraved on them. Also got a Hohner special-designed ultra-bend harmonica, it is the most insane harmonica I've ever played. The other best thing I got was a real handcrafted professional Native American flute/pipe from my folks. Fan-fuckin-tastic!
I also sliced through my left hand third finger this morning while cutting a loaf of bread. Didn't go through the tendons, so no E/R for me. Eff that! Anything to avoid the E/R for stitches so I cleaned it all up and put some band aid strips to hold it together. I won't be playing guitar for a week or two though, which is bummin because I was just getting back into the groove. But all is well.
Word to the wise: Always use a cutting board when slicing anything. Do not hold thing you are cutting. I tell myself this over and over but still, i make the same mistake. Eh.
Merry Christmas you songfightees !
