recording drums
I am new to GB, has anyone recored with multiple mikes. I used my ProTools MBox and it worked like a charm with 2 mikes. I'm going to hunt down a mixer (4 channel). My question is: How do I run a signal from the board into the Mac? A cord is 1/4" inch, do I need an adapter that fits into 1/8" for the computer? Would it be best to run the signal directly into the MBox? My other question is: How do I save my file as a wave file? I am trying to complete my drum tracks and send them to other musicians. They've requested the "wave" format. Thanks, big time!!
Run the signal from the mixer into the MBox, don't use the computers input, your quality will be terrible. Export your files from GB into iTunes then use iTunes to convert the files to a WAV file.
Look under Preferences->Advanced->Importing change the format to WAV and then you'll see the "Convert Selection to WAV" under the Advanced menu. You can then convert any of your iTunes songs to WAV. Be sure to insist that your fellow musicians only send you AIFF files.
Unfortunately GB won't export WAV files without going through iTunes, but it will import WAVs. Even if using a PC your friends can probably use AIFF files (which is what GB uses), but don't know it.

If you're going to get a whole new mixer for this, I highly recommend the Alesis MultiMix Firewire line. Instead of going through your MBox or the computer's line-in, it goes directly into GarageBand via Firewire. I recorded drums on my album using this setup (MultiMix 12 and drum mics), and they sound great.
