1/8/2008: Midwest aftermath
Yesterday my boss told me that there would be tornado weather last night. I scoffed, thinking he was making it up. But:
http://www.ky3.com/news/local/13511342.html
Luckily we were two hours away from serious weather, but at 4:30 this morning, we were awoken by intense winds and hail. Still okay, if not a little shaken (and tired!). On the link above, be sure to look at the images near the bottom of the article which show one of the tornadoes and the incredibly large hail.
I will leave the question of the day for someone else.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELVIS
QotD: What non-human species would you most like to root?
I think dugongsare pretty cute. They are a bit wet and soggy - but if you half close your eyes you can pretend they are Darryl Hannah
OK then:Wages wrote: I will leave the question of the day for someone else.

I'm just gonna pretend that by 'root' you mean 'plant' (which doesn't really sound all that much better honestly) Like, if I could grow a species. Otherwise I have to think you have the furry fetish.
<strike>eh, thats no fun. Furry fetish is way more interesting. (Not that I'm into that kind of thing)
I'd say a lion... just because that would totally make me alpha male!</strike>
oh nevermind...

Roll Call: I was at the polls at 8 this morning. I got to work about 20 minutes late. At lunch I'll drive home and watch the boys so Celeste can run out and vote. Voting takes place at our town elementary school, and classes are cancelled there today. We homeschool though, so my boys have to learn something whether they like it or not.
QotD: I don't really have a good answer for this one. Nothing that comes to mind appeals to me whatsoever. I'm such a prude.

Try a lioness. I don't want any of that weird gay stuff here.
edit:
and thanks a lot Jim Tyrrel for jumping in ahead of me and thus rendering my post completely nonsensical

Your story would be killer if it had one twist. Twist: You are a school teacher at that elementary school where the voting is held. Otherwise, I'll give you 5.5/10.jimtyrrell wrote:Roll Call: I was at the polls at 8 this morning. I got to work about 20 minutes late. Rooting is what you do to an ugly sheila if you've had one too many Fosters, mate. Or, if you happen to be a Kiwi, what you do to a sheep. Oy!
Seriously. I can't answer that question. I mean, jeez.
If anyone happens to share my opinion on today's QotD, I propose an alternative: How come every time Caravan Ray gets to ask the QotD, it always involves root?
DRC: I've only been up for about an hour and a half, and I plan on spending the rest of the day with my nose in a book until about 11:00 P.M. (midnight EST), at which point I'll turn on the TV and see if they've figured out our candidates yet.

And male octopi use one of their arms to deliver semen. So unless you are packing something long and flexible and covered with suckers, you may prove to be a disappointment to a cephalapod partner.fodroy wrote: I almost said octopus, but those have beaks. Sounds painful.
I would probably turn down offers from a platypus. The whole "monotreme" thing sounds a bit unhygienic.

News: So, I am sitting at work, and it is dark and fucking hot. It is dark because all the lights are off and the curtains are closed. This is so because its fucking hot, and the air conditioner isn't on. The air conditioner isn't on because it was billowing thick, plastic smelling smoke from it yesterday just before knockoff. So we learnt two things yesterday. Something is wrong with out air conditioner, and our fire warden is totally useless.
QOTD: Geez Ray, whats up with all the bestiality prudes, eh? I will have to say monkeys, as Ross Noble's love of primates is infectious (but you can get a cream for that).

Well, of course, my first thought was the bonobo, but that's purely out of scientific curiosity. And I suppose that's old news.
Yeah, I've never really been attracted to anyone outside my own species. There's this girl I'd very much like to root, but alas, she's human.
But some people seem to like dolphins.

drë: You realize that only male peafowl have the fancy plumage, right? That girl is clearly crossdressing.
hoblit: I know the AAE is always at the same time as the CES. I didn't think of that when I posted that trade shows fucking suck though. The biggest trade show i'd been to before was siggraph and that fucking sucked. CES is about 10x as big and commensurately sucks about 10x as much.

Siggraph is great for the talks but the trade show is generally slimy, or at least it was the two years I went there. It doesn't help that I was a grad student so a lot of vendors wouldn't give me the time of day (since I wouldn't be signing any big purchases or whatever) even if I was genuinely interested in their products.
