I vaguely remember listening to that cover clandestinely at work. Where is it now?

OK I decided not to include any of my pals on the list, because they all know how much I like their stuff anyway - but for the record my SF picks would be Starfinger (Eggplant), Heuristics Inc. (Thanks for Coming), Niveous (Red Zero), TVIYH (The Gutter), HDI:D (Dizzy Spells) and Masters of Grip (Quentin Tarantino).

So from the others - i.e. there is no reason to name check them except that i think these are brilliant songs - my Top 10 (+1 slight cheat at number 11)

1. So Kind Stacey - Hell Yeahs
2. Adam & Steve - A-Bomb
3. King Arthur - Lavender Splendor
4. Roymond feat. Sudharshan - Hey Ruth
5. Jack Shite Mission Accomplished
6. Frankie Big Face - half a Stone
7. Future Boy - Keep in Touch
9. Kimmy D - Hey Ruth
10. Ivy Vee - From This Day On
11. Kompressor - Zero to Phantom :)

I had forgotten that 1,2,4 & 9 all come from the same week. Damn, that was a good week :)

I would also include Bolio's Elvis in Space song, that missed the fight but was far and away the best of that lot ....

Due to the problems of my home dial-up and the fact that I've broken the headphone jack on my work computer - I don't get to listen to as many songs as I would like to, But from what I have heard in the time I've been here - the following is a list in no particular order of what I consider to be 10 stand-outs:

I am Tempted – Kelvinator
Piece of My Heat – The Hell Yeahs
Let it Be – Tony Hightower
Big Disco – Rocket Thunder
In The Ditch – Novox the Robot
From This Day On – J$
I Want To Get Better – Dylan Nau
Lucky Man – Abominominous
Waiting Takes Time – Josh Woodward
(and token self-indulgence)
Bonjour Mon Ami – Caravan Ray

A quick yay 'cos I was just talking to Starfinger about how this is my absolute favourite of my own songs from this year and how he did such a great job mastering/engineering it. I don't do as many down-the-line-punk songs as I'd like 'cos I only have an acoustic guitar, which doesn't lend itself to thrash-outs unless (like this one) I find the right setting on my distortion plug-in.

And a second yay to Bolio for mentioning 'Can't Take My Love Away'. I love that song too, but I must stress (as I always do) that Jon Eric wrote the words and the chord sequence. I just arranged it up, made a few changes to fit my style, and away I went. I think I did better out of the 'write a songfight title for each other' challenge than he did :)

Well, this is easy, take my post from the other day and take out all the 2003s, and add a couple more. These are not really ranked, I just wanted to give them all numbers.

1. Starfinger - I Don't Like Eggplant
2. Glorious Mono - Firebomb
3. Jon Eric (words by King Arthur) - Race to Seven
4. The Befores - A Day In The Life
5. Future Boy - There Are So Many Possibilities
6. Idiot Kings - Mission Accomplished
7. Dollar Bill & the Inkpoints - Chaos vs. Order
8. c layne - Dizzy Spells
9. Revel Yth - A Promise is a Promise
10. Brainpipe - Chainsaw
11. 15-16- Puzzle - Fire Bomb
12. There was an A-Bomb track I wanted to put here. Which one was it?

I'm working very very diligently on my list. I've been spending every work day listening to each SF from the year. I'm currently up to July's fights. When I'm done, I'm going to compile a gigantic list of my favorites (my way of making up for a lack of reviews from me this year).

Wouldn't it just have been easier to review as the year went?

Top Ten of 2004

Post by Freddielove »

Hey a top ten list. Everyone loves / hates these, so here are mine.

1. Forty Second Songs sings Carol Cleveland - Less of You
One of my favorite songs Songfight or otherwise. The over the top rap at the end is golden.

2. Carol Cleveland Sings - The Chair We Share
Absolutely Inspirational. I could probably fill up a list of my favorite ten CCS songs.

3. Michael Gum - Are You Having Fun
One of the best pure songwriters on Songfight, but only two songs. Sparse accoustic guitar arrangements that never lose interest and highlight their superior songwriting. Here's hoping we will here more next year.

4. Kelvinator - Zero to Phantom
Speaking of only two songs, Kelvinator left a earnest jem with this one.

5. Jim of Seattle - Gin or Ginseng
A unique voice on Songfight, one of the best lyrical takes on a title of the year.

6. Forty Second Songs - Gin or Ginseng
A great combination of musicianmanship and good writing.

7. Deshead - Dark All Day
One of those songs that is so great that you can't believe that someone is giving it away.

8. Drew - Zero to Phantom (reissue)
A favorite to dance to with J~ around the house.

9. Soutwest Statistic - Tri Sate Area
A great SongFight debut

10. Josh Woodward - Waiting Takes Time
Josh has set the bar for Sonfight Production standards with his consitent quality entries and all of SongFight is the better for it. This is perhaps the least Woodwardian of his songs, save Baba Ganoush, but a great song nonetheless.

+1

11. Dylan Nau - Promise is a Promise
One more, I can't believe I forgot about Dylan Nau. One of the first SongFight songs I heard, and still one of the best.

Honorable Mentions

1. Michael Gum for the last line of Can't Take Our Love Away

2. Jonny Cashpoint for the first line of Big Disco

3. Loyalty Day - The Chair We Share

4. The Cow Exchange - Tri State Area

Favorite Fights of the Year
1. Zero to Phantom
2. Gin or Ginseng
3. The Chair We Share
4. Tri State Area

Happy new year eveyone.
