Yeah, almost let another one get away from us.
Work was busier than thought for bein' a holiday.
QOTD: Why did the chicken cross the road. Difficulty: Not to get to the other side / attached to anything else crossing said road.

Watched some of The Who and Isle of Wight - huge sound - four guys - why do I need 16 tracks? (rhetorical question, of course)
Trying to figure out my new Wii game.

DRC: trying to figure out my new Dragon NaturallySpeaking software. So far it understands me, about half the time. The other half of the time, it's been a pain in my left butt cheek. I'll get the hang of this eventually. What I won't have is an answer for the question about the chicken and crossing the road for I am devoid of corny humor. Okay I'm out that devoid of corny humor, but I just don't have an answer.

Good Evening Songfight!
Sadly, I have no chicken wit to impart.
Cartoonmonkey and I just got back from a skiing adventure on Mt. Bachelor. (Yes, there really is a "Mount Bachelor!")
I have almost no skiing skills -- I grew up in the flat swamps of Chicagoland where the biggest sledding hill in the area was, no kidding, a landfill called "Mount Trashmore." This whole idea of sliding down the side of a mountain on pointy sticks is pretty alien to me. -- but I had a great time! C-monk grew up in Utah, where it seems folks are born with skis attached, so he was able to show me the ropes. The Cascade range is incredibly beautiful and it was a kick to get a chance to play in some snow. (Portland gets almost no snow.)
We just got back after a semi-harrowing ride through the Santiam pass. ("You just want to go this way 'cause it sounds like the 'anti-m' pass!")
It was a great trip. I have absolutely no desire to return to work tomorrow.

I've gone snowboarding on mount baldy. I know there's something chuckle worthy there, but I'm not sure why.

Did some time in Schaumburg in my own wasted youth.

No way! Is there a Mt. Trashmore in Hoffman Estates? (And Virginia Beach?)
I grew up in Evanston. Just like John Cusak.
I just spent a lot of Googletime trying to find a good image of OUR Mt. Trashmore, and was only able to find this evidently ancient article:
http://www.lib.niu.edu/ipo/1980/ip800904.html
Huh! Whaddya know. Mt. Trashmore is not made of actual trash. I can't believe they actually used to have a ROPE TOW there to bring you to its 65 foot summit. (All that "winter sports" stuff was gone by the time we made the scene! For us it was just a big sledding hill.)

Yeah, the one in Va Beach is right next to the main highway coming into town, so I used to see it every time I went down there (my grad school was only about an hour away and I had a cousin in Va Beach). Is it a chain or something? Or just a common name?anti-m wrote: No way! Is there a Mt. Trashmore in Hoffman Estates? (And Virginia Beach?)

It wasn't so much a matter of crossing as it was a failure to make a decision to stay put in any one place. In the case of the particular chicken in question, said failure was both symptomatic and symbolic. The whole confusion over the chicken and egg thing had left it in a schizophrenic state for most of its short life. The whole issue of whether to cross or not to cross was not one that was within even the chicken's conscious mind. At the time that it was observed, it was simply wandering aimlessly, without direction in either the short or long terms. Of course, the questioning of the chicken's motives by society at large has not improved the chicken's lot in life much at all. Quite the opposite. Recently, the chicken has entered counseling, but the prognosis is not good. Unfortunately, these questions have dogged the species from the beginning, and no permanent remedy has ever proved successful.
