SongFight! Tour 2008: San Francisco, April 2nd

Post by Lunkhead »

Here is the info, courtesy of Ken, SongFight! impresario extraordinaire:

San Fransisco show confirmed for Wednesday April 2nd.
at
Space Gallery
1141 Polk St (at Sutter)
San Francisco CA 94109
415-377-3325
http://www.spacegallerysf.com

As per a suggestion of fluffy's, I've started this thread so we can hash out the band lineup.

I'd like to play a set containing songs by one or more of Tiny Robots/Merisan/Lunkhead/Loyalty Day, if possible.

Sockpuppet is a 100% certainty. Also, there is a last.fm event page. I'll try to keep it up-to-date.

Oops, I didn't realize Last.FM would make it look like I was the headliner. I changed it to be a "festival" instead.

So:

Zipline
Sockpuppet
Ken
Lunkhead/Merisan/Loyalty Day/Tiny Robots

And possibly:

... Ice Weasels?
... Booty Chesterfield?
... The Hand Puppets?
... The BeWells?
... Minty Handy?
... Seamus?
... Evil E?
... prayformojo?
... State Shirt?

Anybody else? Should we put a limit on the number of sets, like 6-7, first come first served?

BTW I originally put Lunkhead on the last.fm list but then it thought that some Japanese rock band was coming. It'd be nice if last.fm had a way of being more specific with band names.

I don't think I've ever been able to weed out anybody playing my stuff from people playing the "original" Lunkhead's songs on last.fm, so I agree, it would be nice to be able to be more specific somehow. And it would have been nice if I had Googled "Lunkhead" even once before deciding to use it. Doh!

Hey Folks,

I'm thinking the order for this show will be:

Ken's SBDnS
Merisan
Sockpuppet
Zipline
Seamus Collective
Evil-E

Does that work? Did I miss anyone? Does anyone have special gear requests?

Thanks!

See you there!

Be well,
Ken

The gallery's Web site says their hours are "8-Late". Do we have a rough idea when we'll have to start and how much time we'll have? In spite of the fact that it's virtually impossible to provide an accurate answer to the question, people always ask "When does your set start?" anyway. If we have the place from 8-12 or something, we can have 30 minute blocks for setup/set/tear down for each act, starting at 9, perhaps?

Hey um not to be all whiny and neurotic and such but I still need to arrange the getting-picked-up thing with someone.

I won't be able to pick you up. I've got a bunch of stuff to do and bring to the show. Maybe you should call a cab?

Well, my place actually isn't that far from the venue, and I don't have much gear to bring either, just my guitar (and I could always just use someone else's) and looper pedal crap. I also have a guitar amp which could be used as a bass amp if we still need another one of those.

I just bet you guys had an incredible set, and are now patting yourselves on the back and drinking heavily. Bastards.

Can't wait to see the pics/hear the recordings!

It went very well. I think my levels need some adjusting (I need to come up with a better way to do the sound check portion of my loopy set). Everyone else was fantastic. My animator friend Pat came and drew pictures of a bunch of people and I will post them here when Pat finishes scanning them in (although he left during Merisan's set).

I think for the next show I will start my set by doing a quick level check, and then surrepitously record people into the loop pedal to make the room sound even louder than it is, so that when I stop the loops it'll suddenly get relatively quiet and then there'll be silence for me to break into.

Great job, everybody! Some miscellaneous highlights in no order, and definitely in an exhaustive list: Evil E's guitar and bass playing throughout the night, particularly on the 12-string acoustic; "El Balazo", "Pieces of Eight", "Ignorance is Bliss", Seamus's vocalizing, etc. etc. by the Seamus Collective; the "Zinkline" FAWM songs, particularly the vocal harmonies, and I still love "Glutton"; playing along on a few songs at the end of the Zipline set and watching Glen shred; the Sockpuppet looping songs and video game reference song; making the 2-3 random people who wandered in sway and get down a little during our set; closing out the night with a rocking set with Ken.
