Need awful pop song suggestions.
My Fraternity has an annual tradition that involves a really bad pop song. I won't say much else about it, but there's one song chosen per year. Some examples of songs chosen in this decade:
Britney Spears - Toxic
O-Zone - Dragosta din Tei (the "numa numa" song)
Shakira - Wherever, Whenever
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
The Veronicas - 4Ever
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
Anyone here particularly well-versed in awful top-40 hits? Some of the guys seem to be in favor of that new Miley Cyrus song, "See You Again," but I think that it's too bland and forgettable to really make an impact. Any suggestions?

Toxic and SUBG are good pop songs. Heathen.

Well, that's what we're looking for. The ones that toe that line. I happen to think "Girlfriend" was a pretty good choice, too.erik wrote:Toxic and SUBG are good pop songs. Heathen.

I came in here to say that these three songs also meet my approval.Generic wrote:Well, that's what we're looking for. The ones that toe that line. I happen to think "Girlfriend" was a pretty good choice, too.erik wrote:Toxic and SUBG are good pop songs. Heathen.
Heck, I even have Breakaway (the Kelly Clarkson album with Since You Been Gone on it) That album is solid.

Oh yeah. I keep thinking she can rise above (don't ask me why) but this song will forever be her anchor in the depths of the crappy empty pop sea.Hoblit wrote:oh oh.. and as for an actual suggestion: Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl.

That is a good suggestion. They're usually recent, but there's no rule saying they must be current top-40 hits.Hoblit wrote:oh oh.. and as for an actual suggestion: Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl.
THAT song is terrible yet very popular. (yet outdated, I'm not sure if you meant that it had to be 2008)

Just a few comments -
I can't even believe that's filed under 'music'. And who came up with that title? Sheesh.Niveous wrote:"Confessions of a Broken Heart" by Lindsay Lohan
Really? I've always kinda liked that one.Niveous wrote:"Stronger" by Kanye West
Anyone think these two are completely overrated? I do.Niveous wrote:"Rehab" by Amy Winehouse

1) I actually don't mind the Lindsay Lohan song that much. And the title is actually "Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)" which is even worse.Reïst wrote:Just a few comments -I can't even believe that's filed under 'music'. 2) I can't stand Kanye anymore. And the Klondike/Blond Dyke line proves to me that he's just not the rapper he thinks he is.
3) Absolutely.

Some good suggestions in that list, Niv. Unfortunately, too many people like "Stronger" non-ironically, and "Stupid Girl" sounds a bit too much like the aforementioned "Since U Benn Gone." The others are all worthily awful. Thanks.

This is older, but remember that "Story of a Girl" hit? I don't know the band. Even after all these intervening years of bad pop songs, it's still quite possibly the worst song I've ever heard.

That line tells me that the cycle will start itself all over.jimtyrrell wrote:"Time for you to go out to the places you will be from"? God, it makes me angry every time I hear that. The song is a hack job.
Eh, whatever...to each his own I guess. If that lyric bothers you, stay away from the early REM and avoid TMBG all together.
