Sitting around scanning in some stuff for the Mrs. and it seemed like maybe a good day to ask:

QotD: if your computer melted down right now, how close to "adequately backed up" would you be? Annoyed because you have to reload stuff? Very annoyed because you'll have to recreate a lot of stuff? Panicked because you lost some very important stuff?

I think I'd be pretty close to that first category, assuming that all the backup CDs were readable. I keep up fairly well with the backups, and put them offsite over at my mom's house... I'm sure there would be a few things I discovered weren't on the backups, but the vast majority of music files, photos, journal and scans of paperstuff would be recoverable.

QOTD: The only thing that I keep backed up is my monthly customer billing. I do keep one time customer info on a separate hard drive, but if that drive fried, I'd lose updated info, but I'd still have the customer address, phones, etc. I need a better system.
My music is on two separate drives.

edit: when I say separate drive, I mean external.

QOTD: If my computer goes down I'm screwed. I need to do something about that.

There are eight computers currently running at my house. Some of them are semi-backed up to each other. Depends on which one went down what I would lose.

Let's start here...
Image
Nothing of a lot of signficance on the win2K on the left, or the Linux machine on the right. If the laptop of the middle went, however, I just might jump off a bridge.

Next, the studio computer has the source for every Octothorpe recording ever. Nostalgic value, mostly. I would be sad, but that's mostly it.

Image
Laura's computer has her current homework, but it's mostly backed up on a USB drive:

These three are in the "lab" and have student work on them, but that was backed up on Friday, to a thumb drive, and to each other. I try to keep them in sync, so that they all contain the same data.

That's right. They are all at my house.

and fate would have me see this question......

i currently have 3 computers, all macs, used for a variety of purposes. my ibook, my primary "business" computer has all of sudden had a major meltdown and won't even boot up now. might be as simple as a new battery or charger, but i've got a bunch of important stuff on there that while no desperatly urgent, i have no other backup for. bummer. gah!

man, i just have to say that the Lost season finale....HOLY SHIT. still the best show on TV.

QotD: I would be majorly screwed. I have alot of songs I need to upload to my soundclick page before I lose them forever. Not to mention al my porn would be gone.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D
