in one month from two days ago, I will have been born 20 years ago. Great!

QOTD: Can you remember a special pair of shoes from your childhood? Can you tell us a story about them?
I had a pair of white velcro Nikes, and I must have had them for 2 years, which is a LONG time for the growing feet of a 6-year-old. I think I saved them and they're still around somewhere... I once stepped on a beetle with them, and the stain remained on the bottom of the shoe forever. Still there, if I could only find them.

Also, one of them once started floating down a creek, and I cried so much that my dad walked a mile to try and find it... which he did. Amazing. I'll try and find them and take a picture.

I don't know about my childhood, but up until a couple years ago I used to wear gray New Balance 991s all the time. I liked them because they were made in the USA, and they were gray, not brown or black or blue. Anyway, the damn hipsters were wearing them for a while recently, though they've probably already declared them passé. Damn hipsters.

PS You should rename this thread "August 23rd and 24th", to make it a weekend roll call, as things are slow on the weekends...

Can't say I got too attached to shoes as a kid. Or since. But, ski boots...I had these lace-up leather boots, and they sucked, and they'd get soaked, and VT was insanely cold, and I got frostbite in them, and it hurt my hands to tie and untie them, and I'm lucky to have all my toes today, but for some weird reason, I love skiing more than any other activity but one.

And here's a painting my dad did with my first set of skis and those boots (or some others like them that caused similar torture to one of us).

I've never had a pair of shoes I loved until I slipped on a pair of Chucks. Not sure what it is, but they fit so perfect. After that would be Vans deck shoes. I wear Vans daily.
Yep, Vans and Converse.

Yes, my favorite shoes have all been as an adult. Well, physically mature might be more accurate. But I remember a pair of red low cuts that I got at the Converse factory outlet a couple of towns away from where I grew up. (factory now long in China) I hated the color as soon as we got home. Why the hell did I pick red? But the pair of purple no-name high tops I had years later were much more memorable, grooves worn in them from using them as a brake on a bike with no brake system. (you'd jam your heel into the rear fork of the bike, and slow to a halt)
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Looking at my last night quote for Caravan Ray, I have no idea what that has to do with him not wearing shoes, nor why I posted that. Image

i live in my reef sandals. i'd wear nothing else if i could get away with it. in fact, when i went to tampa, i didn't even bring a pair of shoes or socks.

as a kid, i always wanted to wear pumas, the kind that are hip now (the "clydes", named after cool guard Clyde Frazier of the NY Knicks) made out of suede. nike was just beginning to become popular (mid to late 70's) and a bunch of kids on my junior high school basketball team wore nikes and were considered cool, but most kids wore either puma or converse all stars. i remember my first pair of nikes (the "cortez") were leather with a red swoosh and i loved those shoes.

DRC: I have a problem. I seem to be at a fork in the road and don't really know where I'm heading. I dunno if this is the right place to be doing this but it IS something that's going on with me today so bleh.

When I began my music career I only dealt with fruitloops beats and back then that's all it really was I didn't even attempt lyrics either Roned or sung. And then I did vocals on Dance of the Techno Angels, which I think I lost again. But anyway that song turned out so well I started doing other techno beats with spoken word on them and eventually made an account on the old mp3.com where I found a little bit of success (Had a guy buy the insturmental of DotTA for $300 to use in a commerical). Of course that site went down and came back later on but I moved on to download.com and then quickly left there when I found it to be inferior and landed on soundclick.com where I am now. I released my 1st album which was full of Techno and Trip Hop songs.

Then I bought an electric guitar from my co-worker about eh, 5 or 6 months ago I guess. And I began to practice (a little bit) with that. I put out like 3 pop rock and 1 emo song on my 2nd album which mixed in some more Trip Hop and Techno stuff too. Mostly because of the xbox 360 game Rock Band (which is awesome), my voice has gotten alot better and I am more confident in doing tracks that feature singing and not Roneing.

The problem I face now is... I don't know where to go with my next album. I like doing Fruityloops beats. I like rapping/Roneing. Internet Recording Superstar was one of the best songs from my 2nd album. But on the other hand, I'm getting better at singing and I've done some pretty nice things with the whole rock thing, especially my emo track Walking the Border (which was a SF song obviously as well). Another good point is that doing guitar/singing is going to be way more popular than continueing to pump out Trip Hop songs. Very few people are able to get into any sort of rapping type songs especially on here.

I would eventually like to put out something I could show to an indie label. But I think in order to do that I'd have to find my genre and stick to it. Doing Trip Hop and also doing Rock just isn't going to cut it. I'd be way better off doing one or the other and really working hard on getting better at that one genre. Argh.

To anyone who actually read the whole rant, thanks.

QotD: I wear the kind of shoes without laces or velcro. Toally slip on. They rock.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

Rone, replace fruityloops with impulse tracker and you'd more or less have my history. There is nothing wrong with combining genres in new ways. That is much more admirable than trying to sound like everyone else.

Rone: Press record. Track a song. Explain/categorize it later.

Had a pair of Nike Air Rifts. True, I was already an adult, but they were pretty cool.

Until you smelled them, heh.

Wow, you're more punk rock than me!

Kid: I don't remember shoes from when I was a kid. I had a pair of Nike mid-tops for freshmen year of HS. That was the first time 'I had to have a pair of Nike'.

20s: I had a pair vans that were awesome. The tough skin canvas type petite shoe that wrapped around my feet perfectly. I did a lot of walking around Atlanta at the time and they were perfect for that. I wore those suckers for two full years without any issue with them in the very least. They did start to get a little worn so I bought a newer style and pair of vans. I started wearing the first pair to work at a local restaurant where they lasted another full year in those conditions before I finally had to call them quits.

I lost one pair of vans in a luggage incident at one of the Songfight LIVE events.

I've had my current vans for three years and they are still in pretty good condition.

I want Dre's current Vans. I'm thinking about hitting him over the head and taking them.
---
ALSO WANT TO THANK DRE for coming out to see my band The Funeral Dazies last Saturday night AS WELL AS Emergency Pizza Party members for also coming out to see us.!

Funny you mention this. I was just at Vans on Sat to get a pair of basic tan board shoes for work and they have a limited edition Iron Maiden hi top. I had to get them. They're quite outlandish, which makes them perfect club/casino shoes. I dress loud when I go to Vegas.
They also have Johnny Ramone slip on deck shoes that I wanted, but they were out of my size.
