DRC: Hey everyone. My life has been filled with tons and tons of work. But last night was good and relaxing. Watched Supernatural (this season is excellent). Watched some of the debate (Palin needs to work on her debating skills. It was okay but it didn't help me finally make my decision on who will get my vote). Watched True Blood (exceptional).

QotD: What is your favorite fictional band?

My vote is for the Zit Remedy (followed closely by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem).

Mmm, I hadn't thought of that, but Dr. Teeth, definitely.

drc: happy friday. this week went too fast, and what was there of it suuuuuuuuuuuuuucked. i hate being behind schedule (which is of course a strange spot for me to be in)

qotd: I felt like being contrary and saying The Monkees (any fictional band who can become most famous for an unironic song about how fake and meaningless real people lives' are is okay in my book!) but I'll also have to go with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, although I think Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (the one in the album, not in the live-action movie) is a close second. I'm a bit surprised nobody's said Spinal Tap yet.

[edit] holy shit that White Gold video is disturbing when you consider it's part of a kid-targeted advertising campaign.

I would have said Spinal Tap, but they're so last millennium. White Gold is the new rock god.

The Monkees are not only the best fictional band of all time. They were also one of the best bands of all time. Full Stop.

Yep, that's the song I was specifically referring to. Woo.

Spiraling did an excellent cover of it a long time ago (back when they were still You Were Spiraling).

Is the Blues Brothers band real or fictional? I mean they're fictional in the sense that they're a movie creation, yet they did a tour. They were essentially Booker T and the MG's rhythm section without Booker T. It really looks like the sax player for "Dr. Teeth" was based on "Blue" Lou Marini, from the BB movie, although Dr. Teeth predates the movie. Anyway, Blues Brothers.

How about best fictional Song Fight! band? For that I nominate Explino!. (They were a band that Ken made up for his "Indie Rock Bottom".)

Oh, the Commitments are good, too

(and I dig the eddie and the cruisers record - actually John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band)

Id like to say the Wombles, but
a) Im sure most people wont know them
b) Theyve toured, so might be considered a real band and,
c) Id be lying. I hate the wombles, but I love the Bernard Cribbins theme song

So I guess my favorite fictitious band are Bad News. Man they are so metal.
