DRC: Hey everybody.

It's just another day in the Niviverse. I've been listening to ridiculous amounts of Songfight songs lately. I think doing my yearly Top 200 SF songs will be very interesting.

QotD: I was reading Ben Krieger's blog and he has a very long entry about how his daughter, Marcella Thunderbolt got her name. And it isn't about the Thunderbolt half, it's about the Marcella half. And it's a fascinating little stream of conscious piece. And it inspired me to ask this question-

Are there any interesting names in your family?

QotD: Chris, Corey, Cathie, Mike, George, Steve, John (and his dad John) Delores, Mark, Beth, Kerry, Patty, Sue...etc... while all stuck with the most painfully ordinary names all got the last name of Hoblit. So I guess in that regards it is fair.

DRC: Day is nicely paced. Beautiful weather here in Tampa today. I'm hungry, but I'm always hungry.

My oldest sister is named Itzel. Where the name came from, I do not know. I also have another sister, Lizet. It's like my eldest sister's name was a jumble puzzle and they figured it out and named my middle sister the answer.

Interesting, Niv - my Niece Danie named her daughter Aiden.

DANIE <--> AIDEN

Also, not such a weird name, but just a bit of trivia: each of my names (first, middle, and last) has seven characters. And there are three of us who have that same name. Well, there were. Two are left.

All that is true of me as well, except that there are only two of us with that same name.

My dad's middle name was Willard, and mine is Ian, although we are both Charles. My lady-friend has three names with seven letters each, although, thankfully, there's only one of her.

QotD: No. But my sons are Jason (of the Argonauts) and Erik (as in Satie). When we were first preggers, I wanted to call our daughter Juniper (I liked gin, and also liked "June" for short), but she turned out to be a boy. We asked our first son what to name his new brother. He wanted "Monster Truck"

I dated a girl named Zdanke once. A good tennis player.

Btw-I am named after an author whose books my dad illustrated, and the doctor that saved dad's life when he was a boy (or so legend has it). My initials are RAW, which is the name of my heavy-metal alter-ego.

I always dug that name. I hope this isn't too creepy, but we used to hold our breath passing the local cemetery in VT, where Willard stood proudly. He triggers old, happy memories for me in this world of change. I took this photo just this summer and here I am sharing...

My youngest brother was born October 12, 1957, and somewhere in the family box of growing up stuff there is a card with a list of name ideas... fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, or I might be talking about my youngest brother "Sputnik."

Roll Call: Not a lot of shows on the books for the rest of the month. Maybe there's actually a Song Fight in my future.

QotD: My middle name is Arthur.

My wife & I did the same thing for the name of our youngest son. We had decided that we wanted to give him the middle name Evan. But we had a laundry list of first names, so we gave the list to our eldest son. He only liked one name on the list- Maxwell. And thus, my youngest son is named Maxwell Evan. And the funny thing about that is that my wife and I were devoted watchers of the TV show Roswell. The main character of show: Maxwell Evans.

I think I've mentioned in the past that my daughter in law is named Itzel. It's Aztec and it means morning glory. My Mom's name is Edeltraut. She German, but she goes by Trudy.

Don't know of any odd names, but we do have some interesting initials. Mine are MAD. My brother's are RED. My sister's are AAD - like an album-a-day! And if you throw in her married name, it's AADD - as in Adult Attention Deficit Disorder.

My family has a wonderful history of foreign names which sound like terrible sexual jokes in English. It only got worse after Austin Powers made it so every American suddenly knew what "shag" meant, and suddenly everyone thought they were being OH SO TERRIBLY CLEVER.

Not creepy at all. Dad used to have us hold our breaths as we passed the cemetery as well. That's a neat little story, made better by the rustic setting of Vermont. Thanks for sharing. :)
