FireOne problem

Post by jeff robertson »

Last week I started noticing a strange behavior from my Tascam FireOne interface.

Audio would travel from the FireOne to the computer (as seen by the fact that I could record), and on playback the sound would make it back from the computer to the FireOne (as seen by the LEDs lighting up).

But there is *NO* analog output from the FireOne, not to either of the headphones or to either of the line-outs. The position of the "input/computer" monitoring knob doesn't matter either. That is, direct monitoring of the inputs and monitoring the sound from the PC are both equally broken.

The first couple of times this happened, cycling the power of the FireOne cleared it up.

No such luck today. I turned it off and on about six times and it didn't help.

I fear this is a problem with the FireOne itself, and not something that can be resolved by fooling around with drivers or something. Software shouldn't be able to affect the interface's ability to let you hear its own inputs through the headphone jack.

Thoughts?

As unlikely as it seems, I think I *had* muted it from the computer. Weird set of symptoms but it suddenly started working when I unmuted the "speaker" icon in the windows task bar. Thought that was controlling the computer's normal soundcard, not the FireOne.
