Cheaters
Anyone watching this thing? It's mesmerizing!

yeah asya and i saw it once... they totally set up surveillance cameras when this chick went on vacation, and caught her having a little hotel rendezvous with another chick. they (the two girls, plus the girl who was being cheated on) got pretty nasty when confronted later. interesting stuff, i guess, but i sorta felt sorry for the one the cheating was being done *with*, because she could possibly have not known about there being another relationship and stuff, and there she was all having her business aired on tv... that would suck if it was you wouldn't it?

Yep, it's the stabbing show:
"May 2003 The Stabbing Incident
Jack E. Jett, who does another show for Cheaters creator Bobby Goldstein, hosted this show because of what happened during this case. Renee,21, is pregnant with her scumbag boyfriend's first child. The boyfriend, whose name and identity were withheld, wanted Renee to have an abortion, but she refused. After days of investigation, Cheaters catches the suspect cheating with another woman. Cheaters crew members and Renee take a boat out on to a nearby lake, where they find the suspect with his new lover. Renee screams at the suspect, demanding answers for his infidelity. The suspect gets angry with Joey and Cheaters cameras and pulls a fishing knife! Bodyguards tackle the suspect, with one guy falling into the water. Next, we learn that host Joey Greco has been stabbed by the punk. Security handcuffs the suspect to the boat and rushes Joey back to land. Joey is brought to the hospital and survives his wounds. (Joey began season 4 by thanking everyone for their concern. He said he couldn't discuss the incident because of pending litigation.)"- Entertalkment

Every so often a cheater's or third-wheel's face is blurred and the announcer explicitly states the person didn't want their face or name aired. I take that to mean that everyone else gave consent. Which is part of what's so fascinating.tviyh wrote:and there she was all having her business aired on tv... that would suck if it was you wouldn't it?
Other things I love about it:
There's a pretty strong (implicit) religiousness to the show; pretty rare. The host and crew act like junior high schoolers pretending to be spies. The writers for the announcer use clumsy words and analogies. The editors make no attempt to hide the cameras/mics/bodyguards or to edit out things like the host talking on the phone to order a pizza or someone thinking he's lost and then realizing he's not. Once the cops showed up (the show's bright lights and shouting at night in a parking lot), told everyone to lay on the ground, interviewed the host and "participants", and the editors left it all in!
If the show becomes truly popular, much of the charm will be lost. As it is, the cheater never recognizes the host or the name of the show. So there's always a "what the hell is all this?!" aspect to the confrontation.

and i love how the narrator is always so judgemental and always trying to throw dumb little jokes in the narration, especially during the surveillance scenes. that and the storyline setup where they interview the "victim" and hear their sad sack story about how life is so swell and why oh why could they possibly cheat on me...
who needs springer when there's cheaters. with REAL gratuitous sex and violence.

Hi!
I don't really feel sorry for the people who have cheated or been cheated on in this case, I mean they HAVE to give you the option to have your dirty laundry aired on national tv right? I just think that America in general has a facination with other people's lives. It just shows the lack of intelligence of most of the people who are on these types of shows, but in my humble opinion people who cheat are dumb anyway, if you wanna cheat how hard is it to tell the person you are with you are having issues with staying faithful, I know from experence that I would have rather have heard " hey asya I don't want to knock boots with you anymore... I have found another skank to hit".
But these are the same stupid people who confess they are gay or have sex in the back of a cab on taxi cab confessions and pretend like they didnt have to sign anything for them to air that as well.... DUMB people!

well, the way i see it, alot of these people caught cheating are obviously pretty angry at the fact they got caught when it happens. when they get caught, i'm sure they are mostly thinking "wtf?" than "oh no, millions of people will be watching this..".
of course, after they are kicked to the curb by the faithful better half, that 15 minutes is looking mighty tempting. for a large group of people, the chance to make an ass of yourself on national television is a strong attraction, stronger than self respect even.
