i was skeptical to go see this, because the preview made the humor look pretty bland. i was pleasantly surprised, though. this movie is really good, and really pretty to look at. go see it.

It's very pretty stylistically. Overall, I really enjoyed it. And it made me go 'aww', which is good. Got a little 'meh' someimes, but it was cute.

we saw it this afternoon. i'm really glad we did. apparently any animated film robin williams gets his hands on turns into pure comic gold, and ewan mcgregor (albeit with an american accent), mel brooks, and the rest did a great job too.

lots of hysterical moments... i don't want to give anything significant away, but at one point there are a pair of bathrooms and one sign has a picture of a plug, and the other sign has a picture of an outlet... i'm still cracking up about that one :>

It can't possibly be as bad as its preview. The Robots preview is the worst I've seen in years. It totally scares me away from seeing the movie. But I'm gonna anyway, of course.

i totally agree. this is one instance where judging the movie by the preview is completely bad for you. go see it, jb. i have a feeling you'll like it.

i don't believe i saw the preview you're referring to. but the movie is totally worth seeing. i mean it's visually very stunning; the scope of the scenery in the robot city is pretty grand. the story itself is rather cheesy and not very plausible, but there's a lot of comedic moments and as i said, it's worth seeing just for the visual aspect.

I have a feeling JB will hate it.

It's pretty, and I laughed a few times, but it's flat flat flat.

Robots LOOKS awesome.
The animation is really good. The characters, backgrounds, textures, and everything that goes along with it is pretty amazing.

The story itself is pretty generic, along with some rather crude humor for a movie meant for kids, but oh well. It won't be long before Disney has their characters swearing at eachother.

I wound up seeing this twice. The first time was at a local theater. I chuckled a couple times, in the spots where somebody slipped something past the blandinator.

The second time was in LA, I saw it with PrayForMojo. I was willing to see it again, because it was beeing projected digitally, and I had never seen that before. It looked just like film, I guess. Not better, not worse. But I'd expect that at the Arclight in Hollywood.

But the second time around, the film is horrible. Not funny. Just boring as sweeping a barn floor. God.

C- and it gets that because it does look cool, mostly. Otherwise it'd get an F. What a waste. Go see the incredibles at a second run theater before you see this piece of crap.

I dunno, I saw it with my kids, and we all enjoyed it. Granted, when I see a movie with mykid who's having a good time, I tend to have a good time too. It was funny, visually exciting, and personally, I appreciated the message, a message that I don't think get's tired, because it bears repeating. It was buried enough in the story to not be blaringly obvious, yet it was present enough that the target audience (kids) could draw some good moral fibre from a silly movie.

I would n't give it an Oscar, but I wouldn' t rate it as crap either. I also don't need to see it again... but I'm sure my kids will see it again... and possible again.. and again...

Bear in mind, I then took my daughter to see "Ice Princess" and I liked that one too. Normally, I wouldn't give it the time of day, but when your 8 year old is cuddling up to ya, all happy and fuzzy to be out on the town with her dad, Ishtar would seem like Oscar material...

This was totally worth saying twice! :D

I wouldn't go as far as to say this was 'made' for kids. It had a PG rating, as does Lilo and Stitch, and Shark Tale. "Family" movies these days usually means a cartoon with innuendo.

[EDIT] I think that "back in the day" there were family movies, and now the family movies title has moved up a slot and there are family movies and kid movies. Sort of like how Papa John's has a Large Pizza, but it's not the biggest, the Family Size is...

I was actually not looking forward to seeing Shark Tale, as I thought to myself, "What a blatant lack of originality" ie Finding Nemo.
I actually liked it more than I liked Robots, which I was VERY excited to see because I'm part of that subculture that thinks robots and pirates are cool to like.

It was indeed amazing to look at, and my daughter probably would have had a great time, but I barely laughed (the scene where the recycler get's called a man and says, "I'm a woman." Should not have been funny but I guess it was in the delivery...

I think that if a kids movie is going to attempt to include adults in the viewing by adding crude, robot sex innuendo, they need also make it funny. There's only so much laughter you can get out of people with jokes based on robot gender...
