12 October 2011 - Happy Carbon Day!

Post by Caravan Ray »

Finally....

After over 30 years of scientific advice
Over 20 years after being party to the Framework Convention on Climate Change

finally

the Australian Government has made a (small) positive step to addressing the issue.

Today - an Emissions Trading Scheme linked to alternative energy funding finally became a reality.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd savoured a moment of victory as the government's far-reaching emissions trading legislation passed the House of Representatives this morning, sparking jubilation and relief on the Government benches.

I know Australia is well behind parts of the USA like California on this - but is there any chance the Federal US government will enter the 21st century on this soon? Dragged kicking and screaming as we were (are)?

...And now past the Senate.

Finally.

30 years too late - but it is a start.
