I'm having a REALLY bad day :(
Normally I'd just buck up or whatever and Cope, and I know there is starving and pestilence and stuff. But it was one of those days where one thing after another continued to occur in an escalating series of events that culminated in my hard disk failing and no one really cares :(
Why yes. That was a pathetic whine.
Computers frustrate me.
I am running a hasty backup because of course I am behind on All That. No idea how much work I'll lose if it doesn't work out.
Let this be a lesson to us all. :) If you haven't backed up in a few days, go do it now. :)
xx

I'm 60 gb into a backup. Nothing has exploded yet. Sorry for the running commentary. I realize this is #nottwitter.
speaking of twitter, I have found Tweetcaster for iPad whilst waiting. I think I will live to the dawn :) #backofHandRemovedfromForehead

Bad day here too. My dog had a stroke yesterday

Poor old Chief is 3 weeks short of his 13th birthday and yesterday he started walking all funny. At first we thought he had a paralysis tick - but he seemed disoriented more than paralysed. Vet gave him a big shot of cortisone - he seemed a bit happier but we were prepared for the worst and expected to have to put him to sleep today.

Anyway - he woke up this morning looking a little better. He still can't walk properly, but he seems happy for now. We expect it still may only be a matters of days or weeks if we are lucky - but he does not appear to be in pain - so we will continue enjoy his company while we still can

Sorry to hear about your computer Denni. But it sounds like you are doing a good job of saving it.

And that really sucks about your dog, Ray. 13 is a pretty long time for a dog though, you're lucky to have had him so long.

My 10th wasn't so bad, other than having to work 7 am to 4 pm. And knock on wood *knock knock on computer desk* I will have a good 11th as well. :)

btw, in a totally unrelated topic, I am planning to resurrect my SongFight career by learning to create Dubstep. I'm not joking.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

I was having a bad day yesterday too, but then I got drunk. Hopefully you and Ray did at some point, too. Best wishes!
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I am so sorry about Chief, Ray! I'm really glad that you didn't lose him yesterday.

It seems like yesterday was maybe the day of hope, perhaps. My computer was saved, last minute. There's still much digging to do because there's Sluggish Behavior inside of it. But there was a problem with the boot disk and my husband saved the day, coming in announcing his triumph and smelling of coffee and donuts. He said he felt like a geek hero out of nerd legend, or something like that. Today I will be doing frustrating upgrades. This may indeed drive me to the bottle. On a Sunday night, no less.

I cannot wait to hear your Dubstep, Rone. :) I just learned what that was this year.

Sorry to hear about Chief, John. It's sad to see your animal family members getting old. I hope he recovers and stays around for a while. My sheltie suffered a seizure in her old age that did a similar thing to her. But she recovered and everything was fine. She lived a good long life.

It has been over a year since I posted this, and The Chief did recover somewhat from his stroke and had another happy year.

He just passed away a few days before Christmas, a few days short of his 14th birthday.

Bye Bye Chiefy

He was an absolute gem of a dog.

We were told when we got him that a maremma sheepdog IS NOT a pet. We got him to guard our alpacas when we owned an alpaca farm. We did what we were told and threw him out into the paddock as a puppy to bond with the alpacas and learn his job. Chief took up residence on our hammock and watched those alpacas. When an alpaca mother died - he curled up around the baby to keep it warm. When a red-bellied black snake started to enter our house, he bit its head off.

When we stopped farming alpacas - he guarded us. And our daughter when she was born.

He was a huge dog. But always gentle. To me, my wife and my daughter. To strangers - he would sound like the collective hounds of hell about to rip your throat out. He was all talk. But man - could he talk.

But to us. He was Chiefy. He would sneak up behind us and put his big paw in our lap, just to let us know he was there - looking after us. And when we went walking, he was the Brad Pitt of dogs. He was so handsome, everyone wanted his photo - and he could always strike a pose.

I am happy he is gone. He was 4 years past the average age for his breed. He was REALLY old. He died at a kennel while we were on holidays. That is sad. But is means someone else did all the stuff that has to be done. That is good.

Knowing The Chief for (almost) 14 years significantly affected my opinion of what his species is capable of. I hope that he may be able to say similar.

Losing a pet is always hard. Werner's starting to show his age too... he's almost 10 now! I've only had him for the last year of that but we're still very close. Apparently Russian Blues normally live to be around 15 so I still have a few years left with him but it's still hard to think about.
