OK, so I don't know if this is good or bad. I went to a show Saturday night, where one of my favorite bands was playing. They know me, I know them. I kibitzed on their sound a bit cuz I thought their lead singer needed to come out a bit more. They have been going through a lot of guitar players over the last few years, and I have been threatening to learn to play guitar just so I could stand in when they were in need. Sunday, I got an email saying they want me to audition for bass. Cool, huh? I downloaded their songs and started learning them today, and then I get an email telling me that the audition is Wednesday. Say what? Fuck, man. I am so screwed.

Send them back an aggressive email telling them that YOU will audition THEM at a time of your choosing and not before.

Either that - or pull your finger out and learn their songs instead of mucking about on the internet.

Good luck.

Learn what you can and knock'em out. They'll understand if you don't know the entire set list.

Congratulations, Spud! Every time you've played bass for me, I've been highly impressed; I'm sure these guys will see the same thing.

Being that they are your favorite, at least you are somewhat familiar with how their songs are supposed to sound, and have heard them before... It's easier to learn a song you know, than one that you've never heard before.

That's really exciting, Spud! I'm kind of with Caravan Ray about this one; you're an awesome bassist and it seems like they already know that. Let them know the audition is mutual, a meeting amongst equals to see if things gel.

Do what I do. Learn the root notes, focus on the kick and do whatever the hell you want.

Good luck, Spud.

Thanks for the encouragement, all. I convinced them that it would be better let me learn the songs a bit before auditioning, so it's next week now. Phew.

Does this mean you won't have time for the little people, like a collab with the Psychotics?

...well, we're little compared to you, anyway. :P
