What better way to celebrate the meaningless deaths of young men being slaughtered for political reasons in Turkey 97 year ago, than to be still doing exactly the same thing in Afghanistsan today.
We have come a long way.
Happy ANZAC Day
QOTD: What do you think the most misunderstood holiday is?

QotD: Christmas. It's my birthday, yet people are celebrating this Jesus fellow. Nobody has ever really seen him except in books and Mel Gibson movies.

QotD: Valentine's day. (Proof)
Okay, that's not actually a holiday... I'll go with Labour Day instead. Slacking off on a day called "Labour Day"? That's just ridiculous.

Re: ANZAC Day 2012
I admit I've never been to an ANZAC day remembrance service. People who die in war usually aren't "dying for their country" -- they're dying for the relatively few people who think war is just a super great idea. I know that sending troops to Gallipoli was qualitatively different to sending troops to Afghanistan, but I suppose I just can't really find it in me to praise soldiers above people who have died everywhere else for every other reason.
Mostly I don't want to get up before dawn.

No - sending troops to Gallipoli was qualitatively exactly the same to sending troops to Afghanistan. That is what is so pathetic about it. We were a lickspittle to a larger power 97 years ago. And it is still business as usual. Which was generally the theme of my 'Anzac Day song' from several years ago:supremeedible wrote:I know that sending troops to Gallipoli was qualitatively different to sending troops to Afghanistan
