Great Songwriting Moments #368
I played at an open mic tonight. Haven't been there for a while because Tuesday night is dog obedience training night, but I have now given up on training Genevieve - she i she hound from hell...
So tonight I went to open mic. It went OK - I did a few new songs - but an hour or so after I finished, a girl came up and said, "what was the name of that first sing you sang - it was fantastic, it described my boyfriend perfectly"
THe song was "Breaking the Ice" from Nur Ein this year. The first time I have done it live:

Not sure if the Nur Ein judges really got it, but I was very pleased with that song - I thought it captured very well the drunken mating rituals of a certain type of Australian male (the type that I am quite familiar with, being one of them). And tonight - that was confirmed by a stranger who obviously goes out with a similar type of bloke.
Confirmation that a song hit a direct bullseye with exactly what I was aiming for.
Priceless.

It's nice to be recognized for your work. And it IS a good song, I like it.
I know that feeling CR, like you made your mark, said what you had to say, now put it on my tombstone as my contribution to man/woman kind so I can die in peace.
.....well, that last part might just be me, heh.
A jingle type theme song I made for Tokin Daily, an online marijuana youtube show, is well liked. The guy made it available as an easy ring tone for his viewers which are in the millions all over the world. I love reading the comments that people have it as their ring tone. And it's really cool when Tokin is filming with friends and someones phone rings and it's my song and he mentions it. I still get the occasional message to send them a full version of the song or the clean MP3 for a ring tone so they don't have to get it from the youtube sound track. I love stuff like this! If I could make a living writing jingles and tv theme music, I'd die happy.
