Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

3/11/13- Frontmen

Post by Niveous »

Hey folks,

I felt like doing some Daily Roll Calls this week.

Question: Who is the best frontman in music?

They don't have to necessarily be the best singer. For example- Iggy Pop isn't a great singer but he's one hell of a frontman.

From the old timer's club: Mick Jagger, maybe the greatest. Peter Wolf is fantastic too. I don't know the young'uns, but when I saw Wolf last fall with J Geils band, I was knocked out. I doubt people work crowds like that any more.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

There are several that I thought were great front men. If I had to pick one, I'd say David Lee Roth. Yeah I know, the guy is full of himself. But damn, I've seen a lot of bands through the years and every time I saw Van Halen, he brought it hard every single time!

One that not a lot of people would think of that I love is Lemmy from Motorhead. I don't know if it's the British bad ass smoking drinking biker look, or his gravely voice. But he talks to the crowd and gets everyone involved in the show. Cracking jokes and talking about things he likes and hates about the tour and your city. He's like one of those guys that seems real. Not many of those rockers left.

Freddie Mercury was really good too. But in a different way. He brought so much drama with him to the stage. Every song was pouring his heart out, or creating an atmosphere, more like an opera. It was a huge mind opener for me in highs school. I didn't know what it was or how to categorize it. I just knew I liked it.

Billie Joe from Green Day. He really knows how to get the crowd going.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

Tim Booth of the band James. He performs like a man possessed. Also, when he sings the line "when I look into your eyes, I swear I can see your soul," you can tell he's singing it personally to every member of the audience, and he means it.

I'm not a Stones fan, but Mick Jagger was insanely awesome live.
Peter Gabriel during his first solo tour was tremendous.
And since I'm dating myself, Mozart...
