3/19/13- SF Hard Rock

Post by Niveous »

Happy National Poultry Day.

QotD: What is your favorite hard rock song in the Songfight archives?

I'm a hard rock/ heavy metal guy. Songfight isn't always the best place to find that. But there are many shining examples of Songfight hard rockers. So what are some of your faves?

When I think of Hard Rock/ metal, I think of Klownhole. Having said that, I think Loyalty Day's Are You Having Fun is darn good.

Booty Chesterfield. Not metal, but damn good hard rock/punk. Gert. Ken's gig with SoS lays down some good rock. Canadian Mark, Sven Mullet brings that hard stuff on occasion. I know there's more, but those are the first ones that come to mind.

Look at the modesty. Otalgia is Jute Gyte, Leaf & Ken.

That recording I think is actually just me on guitar, bass, and programmed drums, and Jute Gyte on vocals, singing lyrics by Ken. I have a mix of it around somewhere with live drums by Reist (I think, not Leaf).

There is another Otalgia track around somewhere that I didn't finish in time to enter. It was for "Pink Ribbon", and had Starfinger on vocals and I think more lyrics by Ken. It's pretty epic! If anybody wants I can try to dig it up when I'm home and post it somewhere.

I'd love to do some more metal songs if anybody's interested. I think it is an under-represented genre here.

Sheail has some pretty shreddy stuff: http://sfjukebox.org/artists/Sheail

State Shirt can actually get pretty heavy sometimes. I feel like he's definitely got a 90s alt-heavy rock vibe going sometimes, sounding like anywhere from Helmet to Tool to thrashier stuff. Check out his "I Hate You" in particular for some serious thrashing and throat shredding vocals:

Ha, sweet. Found that track, and it's also got live drums by Reist, who just absolutely crushes it on this song, omg. And Starfinger, wow. Good times.

I'm not a fan of hard rock per se, unless we're talking igneous and metamorphic.

I can't think of anything in the Song Fight archive that particularly grabs me, unless you consider State Shirt's grungier stuff. But then again, people in this thread are considering Brad Sucks to be hard rock so maybe I need to expand my definition.

How about MYCC's "Skyline?"

Nice list! I don't know why, but every time I hear wreckdom's voice, I think of Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation.

I am saying that song doesn't really seem like what I'd call 'hard rock,' yes. To me it's more like minimal grunge, or something.

Also I'm surprised how few songs Brad Sucks entered under his own name here. Huh. For some reason I thought he'd entered solo more than just Bad Attraction as far as non-JB-special-occasion fights go.

Heh, I forgot about that one. I thought that weird one you and I did was pretty damn cool. Now that I think of it, I did a music vid for that one. I should post that in Niv's music vid DRC thread. ....if I still have it.
