4/2/13- Soundtracks
It's World Autism Awareness Day.
QotD: What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
A couple of years ago, I asked what was your favorite song from a movie (and no one answered "Everybody Knows" from Pump Up the Volume and i cried a little) but this time, I wanna know your favorite movie soundtrack as a whole.

Re: 4/2/13
Soundtrack or score? Those are probably different questions.
Score-wise, I love Bladerunner (Vangelis) and Aliens (Horner). Those come to mind right away.
Soundtrack-wise... Get Shorty had a lot of great songs. But I'm sure there's something else that I should be saying.

Hrm, it might be a tie between Magnolia and the Muppet Movie. Oh, wait, The Bee Gee's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band...

The Violent Femmes' "Color Me Once" just came on my jukebox and my answer became clear- The Crow soundtrack.
It's got The Cure; my favorite Stone Temple Pilots song "Big Empty"; Nine Inch Nails covering Joy Division; Rage Against the Machine; The Violent Femmes; The Rollings Band covering Suicide; Helmet; Pantera, Jesus and Mary Chain; and Medicine's wonderful "Time Baby III".

Re: 4/2/13
Oddly, the movie Sucker Punch. I say oddly because they were mostly cover songs. But the coolest part is that some of them were sang by the star of the movie Emily Browning! Not only do you watch the imagery of a bad ass hot, yet innocent looking girl named Baby Doll kicking ass, but also hear her doing the vocals to psychedelic electric covers of songs like "sweet dreams", "where is my mind" and "asleep". I really like an artistic adventure on the screen with fantasy, huge contrasting concepts and awesome music.
The youtube vids don't do the cinematography justice. Sucker Punch on bluray and surround sound is amazing!
The sound track play list:
1. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) – Emily Browning
2. Army Of Me (Sucker Punch Remix) – Björk featuring Skunk Anansie
3. White Rabbit – Emiliana Torrini
4. I Want It All/We Will Rock You Mash-Up – Queen w/ Armageddon Aka Geddy
5. Search and Destroy – Skunk Anansie
6. Tomorrow Never Knows – Alison Mosshart and Carla Azar
7. Where Is My Mind? – Yoav featuring Emily Browning
8. Asleep – Emily Browning
9. Love Is the Drug – Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac

Josie and the Pussycats is a great album. Written and performed by a bunch of cool people like: Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, Adam Schlesinger, Jane Wiedlin, Adam Duritz, Jason Falkner, Anna Waronker, and Kay Hanley.

Re: 4/2/13
There are a lot of autistics who actually don't appreciate autism awareness efforts. Or rather, don't appreciate the way that they're being done, for a number of reasons. Autism Speaks, in particular, has this weird effect where they end up dehumanizing the people they're supposedly trying to help, because they focus so heavily on demonizing the disease rather than on assisting those who need help.

Re: 4/2/13
It can be different for everyone. As the father of a child on the autism spectrum, I appreciate autism awareness. I'm not a fan of the puzzle piece crap but I appreciate getting people educated on things like asperger's.

Re: 4/2/13
Sure, that makes sense, just saying that the "light it blue" thing is offensive to some and probably not all that helpful, especially since it's irrevocably intertwined with Autism Speaks at this point.
Autism research is definitely an important thing but what's even more important is understanding it not as a disease but as a way that some people are and trying to deal with it appropriately. I'm not sure if "prevention" is necessarily appropriate, either, although understanding the root causes would definitely be good.
