6-12-13: Short Songs

Post by Niveous »

Hey folks.

QotD: What are some of your favorite short songs?

Here are some songs that are under 2 minutes long that I have in my jukebox:
"The Letter" by the Box Tops
"Bounce" by System of a Down
"Fell in Love with a Girl" by the White Stripes
"Concrete" by Made Out of Babies
"Miss Gradenko" by the Police
"Copper" by Shellac
"Born to Kill" by the Thermals
"Momma was an Opium Smoker" by Rasputina
"Woo Hoo" by the 5,6,7,8's

Plus there are tons of short songs from Songfighters...

Funny you made this thread. I am listening to The Breeders POD album as I type this and I love the song "Fortunately Gone". I knew it always seems so short, so I just looked and it clocks in at 1:46, so it qualifies. :)
Such a good song.

REALLY a fantastic album. POD is The Breeders first album and everything Kim was unable do in the Pixies came out in this album in an emotional flood. It came out in 1990 and I still to this day listen to it in it's entirety when I'm in need of inspiration. Steve Albini at his finest. He even said once in an article that POD was a rare occasion that he got both great original sound and performance from a band in it's rawest form.

I just love love love this album! If you're in the mood for some music that will put your mind in a place that only your mind knows exists, clear your schedule for the next half hour and listen. You won't be disappointed.

I used to listen to Pod every day, along with Nevermind, after work one year. Great album. There are tons of great short songs but first thing I thought of was this. If you don't know it, get familiar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Musi ... ort_People

Digging My Lawn, from the Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles and Fripp. It's a wonderful little 1:50 jazzy ditty.

Ha, I haven't listened to that cd in YEARS! So I am now. The whole Jessica (Alba-m) on you tube.
Every band on the Fat Wreck Chords label was great.

Take this however you like, but the first two that I could think of were "The Wind" by Cat Stevens, and "Looking at the Sea" by sockpuppet.

sockpuppet's 'Looking at the Sea' is like the 'Her Majesty' of Songfight, for me. Just feeling-wise. :) I know it's shorter.

What's the threshold for "Short Song," by the way? Under two minutes? Under 1:30?

"Fireworks" by George Watsky is 2:09, and pretty amazing.

Oh, and talking about rap songs... Everyone's favorite godfather of Nerdcore, [RAPPER NAME REDACTED], did a really short one for Song Fight once.
