Malcolm Young - Retires

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

That's a much better title for a thread than R.I.P. that usually accompanies a famous musician's name these days.

But he is suffering from dementia. A friend of mine just went through this with his dad last year. It went from bad to really bad until he passed in less than a year. I hope the best for Malcolm.

I've seen hundreds of people with dementia at the hospitals I've work at. It's frightening and sad. Best to all concerned.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Dementia is terrible and I am always scared shitless of it because it runs in my family. My grandma had a seriously bad case of it (which my mom wrote a book about so that others could know what she wished she'd known at the time), and now my mom is starting to show signs too (she's promised to try not to make my life difficult when I follow her book). My heart goes out to Young and whomever is taking care of him.

The article itself makes no mention of dementia, though - the only things I see that say that are tabloid crap. Whether the story is true or not, good on Spin for respecting his privacy.

The SPIN article doesn't mention dementia because they have class and it hasn't been officially reported. But it is mentioned in other news articles that are closer to the family and friends. http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/mus ... 0m1hs.html

Sorry for your grandpa. I just clicked on your mom's book and just reading the opening facts makes me want to read the whole book now.

Yeah, my grandma had been in a slow decline for decades, and she started to show signs at about the same age that my mom is at now. The amazing thing is that due to being extremely self-conscious and not wanting to be seen as an "old lady" she did a really good job of faking not-having-dementia to strangers (mostly to keep herself out of nursing homes), but most anyone who knew her for any length of time could tell it was just an act.

For example, she had a daily ritual of reading the newspaper and repeating all of the salient points of interest to herself so that if anyone ever asked how things were, she could move the topic over to the news and make it seem like she was aware of current events. And this worked as long as the conversation only lasted a few minutes, but eventually she started repeating herself more and more frequently. Towards the end she was only able to hold on to maybe 15 seconds or so.

Anyway, seeing what happens to someone undergoing senile dementia was the inspiration to my "Strangers."

Figured I'd just add this bit of news here.
AC/DC's Phil Rudd Arrested for Attempting to Procure a Murder

One more that probably won't be on their tour.

The attempt to procure a hit man charges were dropped on Phil Rudd. Lowered to threatening to kill. .....and meth and weed charges. Not sure how that goes in the land of OZ. Drummers love their speedy drugs.

....except Ken. He gets high on the Thursday night line up on channel 2. ....and it all starts with a big bang! :P
