Marty Wilson-Piper? Are you confusing the The Saints with The Church ? Another great band, for sure - but not Queenslanders, Sydney-siders. They (and the Hoodoo Gurus and Hunters and Collectors) were my favourite bands to see live when I was a teenager - they came to my home town of Newcastle very ...

B. Ellison: This has a certain charm to it. I like the multiple elements such as the vibraphone (or whatever) that wander in and out of the composition. I would have like more stereo panning to separate out the primary elements more, but I'm a sucker for hard panning. Nicely tracked and mixed, for ...

wow! bonus thanks! My reviews are to come soon. I've heard some good stuff so far though. About the vocals, which seem to be the main criticism, As a vocalist, i'm still trying to figure out where exactly I "fit in." Things'll click eventually because (I think?) I have a decent enough voi...

Steve, have you listened to the whole fight? there's some really good stuff, I admit there's some tough to listen to tracks, but I listened to the whole fight and found a fair share of keepers. Sorry everyone for being so negative, and sorry for the hyperbole, but lately visiting songfight hasn't b...

People, it's SongFight!, not UnlistenableShitFight!

This is the third week in a row where the average entry was so godawful bad I can't bring myself to review them.

If Melvin doesn't win this unanimously I will be gobsmacked.

That's a very interesting post. However, I confess to being most fascinated by the word 'disambiguate.' If that's not a real word, it should be. Carry on, thank you. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/disambiguate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_sense_disambiguation http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/di...

Re: names

I think it should be self-evident that a name such as "Eric B" fails some basic name uniqueness heuristics, and that anyone choosing such a moniker should expect name collisions, whether with performers past, present or future... James Taylor James Taylor Quartet James "J.T." Ta...

Re: names

First of all my song does not have the same exact name as the old one, and my artist name is not exactly the same as the old one, so that comparison you made is not really fair, although I get your point of course. Also, lots of bands have the same name. See the list at http://musicbrainz.org/doc/I...

The Hand Puppets vs. San Jose, Round Two!

San Jose loves the Hand Puppets. Apparently. Our May 9 San Jose debut at the Blank Club must have been a success, since they're asking for More! More! More! Begging us, really. The Hand Puppets will be appearing Thursday, June 14 at the Downtown Britania Arms, 9pm-ish. Also appearing are "Europ...

I believe Paco was referring to the friend-flood-pimping myspace page to as Lame, and offering The Weakest Suit's disclaimer as a non-Lame contrasting example.

This week seems to be well below average. The following fell below the Mendoza line: Nocturnal Emissions: Wake up, dude. Supraliminal: yuck. My Chemical Blumpkins: dumb lyrics, and mimicking the Lame Du'jour is not going to fly, I'm afraid. Luke Henley: ick. Is this even music? I'd rather listen to ...

The Hand Puppets vs. San Jose!

Heya, all. This Wednesday, the Hand Puppets will be heading south of the border to the Blank Club in the sleepy hamlet of San Jose, CA (which we've been led to believe is something like Colma/Daly City, but without the graveyards...) Come on by as we answer the musical question of whether the Hand P...

Gratz, Monte Carlo.

I was a bit surprised that Melvin didn't take this (in a landslide), but I would have ranked M.C.arlo second or third.

And now for the obligatory response to the various reviews.
