Crocodile Tears?
I was kind of relieved that ole Hil showed some actual emotion for a change. The buzz is she used it to play the women's vote, but i think it was an honest, refreshing reaction from someone who is pretty guarded about showing emotion and often times has the charisma of a block of wood.
refreshing, at least for hillary.

I don't know what effects were used. I don't care. She won't get my vote by acting "human". As inhuman and virtually pollarly opposed to me my impression of W is, if he did shit right, I would have voted for him.
I don't want a woman, a black, a crybaby, a general or a libertarian, a republican, a democrat. I want an effective, fair-headed President. The body that this President resides in, and even their personality, is immaterial if it does the right thing.

So you admit one physical prejudice - they must be blond/white-haired. PREJUDICE!roymond wrote: I don't want a woman, a black, a crybaby, a general or a libertarian, a republican, a democrat. NO No no, he's just fantasizing a president as likely as your perfect porntastic fantasy of having two girls at one time.Sober wrote:So you admit one physical prejudice - they must be blond/white-haired. the problem is we don't know if any of these people will "do shit right". we have to judge them on their past, their biases, the skeletons in their closets, their height, their ability to answer a question directly, and probably the most important characteristic, can i relate to this person as a human being and will they hopefully not fuck things up too badly. bush came across as a happy go lucky frat boy and boy did he muck things up. on sheer character, i'd vote for mccain, but i disagree with his politics so i don't have the faith that he wouldn't also fuck things up. so i balance the human aspect with the probability of fucking things up aspect. in a nutshell, undecided.roymond wrote:I don't know what effects were used. ahnuld goes mostly against my grain but i knew he'd be an effective governor and he has been. he was always about the people, despite his wealth, celebrity, lack of experience, serious skeletons, etc. he won because people could relate to him. he brought the state legislature together by going directly to the people and in doing so, got shit done in sacramento, instead of paying them to argue politics as usual. this new coalition with arnold and bloomberg, watch out. this could really shake shit up.
i think hillary showing emotion may have been contrived like erik said, and if that's the case, she is one cool customer. but i think it was real, mostly because i think she herself believes she is on some bigger purpose and calling to be elected the first woman president.
it's her personal mandate and she got caught up in it.

Wasn't this, like, two weeks ago? Or did she do it again? If she did it again, then she's obviously cloying for votes.
If we're still talking about that incident from two weeks ago, though... Well, I think it seemed genuine. She was down in the polls, she'd just lost Iowa, and I think she was facing, for the first time, the immediacy of the possibility that she might not get to be the next president, or even the Democratic nominee. She'd been so far out ahead in the polls till then that I think she assumed that she'd get the nomination at the very least, as a matter of course.
Not so sure anymore, right...?

I agree. W was and has been pretty much all emotion, and no sound policy. I don't want a "human" president; I don't want a president who's "just like us," or anything like that. The president should be a man (or woman) of the most remarkable caliber as to make them worthy of the highest leadereship position attainable to a person in this age. That means, sometimes, not being "human." Think about George Washington or Abe Lincoln. It's tough to imagine these people as living, breathing human beings who maybe didn't talk proper all the time and occasionally made mistakes. But that's why they're legends, man! So the president should handle everything properly, and maintain composure, even under stress, even under failure.roymond wrote:I don't know what effects were used. I don't care. So Hillary falls in the polls, jerks a tear out, and suddenly people are praising her for her humanity? That doesn't make sense to me. That's like indulging a tantrumatic child. If she cries, she'll get those votes. I don't want a president who's going to cry as soon as things start looking like they *might* not go exactly as planned.
God, this pisses me off. Sorry about the rant.

I kid...but again, more people looking for the perfect candidate when there ain't one. (and sadder yet, may never BE one) I've seen a lot, A LOT of grown men cry on TV and some of them have held office. I'm not here to tell you that they were valid tears, I'm hear to say that you being so passionately pissed off at someone tearing up for WHATEVER reason is relatively useless. Every candidate is going to pull out whatever they have in their arsenal and even Bush has fired some tears in the right situations. Barrak will probably do it too.
