REM is a bit cryptic, and TMBG are certainly lyrical gamesmen. But there's a craft exhibited in their work that I don't see in Closing Time. Your interpretation makes sense, but given the less-than-profound nature of the rest of the song, I think it likelier that the line is just a hamfisted grammatical compromise for the sake of prosody. Eww, that last sentence was just about as ugly. Forget I brought it up. I retract my suggestion, and offer Starship's "We Built This City" in its place.

THAT IS a terrible song. I think people play it parties and events because they are convinced that somebody must actually like it. I think is a one big misunderstanding. GAWD at least I hope so.jimtyrrell wrote: Forget I brought it up. I retract my suggestion, and offer Starship's "We Built This City" in its place.

Wow, I like so many of these. And I always thought I was the snobbiest. "Toxic" is awesome (okay, that one's kind of a guilty pleasure). I lovelovelove Amy Winehouse and find her UNDERrated. I also think Regina Spektor and Feist are decent. And while I'm not going to make a big case for Kelly Clarkson, SUBG is the best song to come out of an American Idol protege by far.

I love Feist, obviously Niveous doesn't get that 1-2-3-4 is about Armageddon.
The worst song ever is "Wordplay" by Jason Mraz
OK maybe 2nd worst after "Built this City" by Starship.

Re: Need awful pop song suggestions.
We wound up using "Don;'t Stop the Music" by Rihanna {link}.
Incidentally, just about every song that anyone has mentioned in this thread is really fun to play on Audiosurf. Especially "Girlfriend." Wow.

Actually, Niveous listens to every song he put on his list (except the Daughtry one) and admits that they are awful pop songs but likes them anyway. Even the Lindsay Lohan one.glennny wrote:I love Feist, obviously Niveous doesn't get that 1-2-3-4 is about Armageddon.

If no one has said, which I'll be surprised, "Hey there Dalila" sucks pretty good.

Re: Need awful pop song suggestions.
"Hey There Delilah" is way too laid-back and downbeat for our purposes.

Re: Need awful pop song suggestions.
I get requests for that song at shows pretty often. I tell them I don't know it, and they usually say something like 'but it's such a simple song!' and I reply 'yeah, it's actually more work to NOT learn it, but the effort is worth it' and then I don't get any tips.Billy's Little Trip wrote:If no one has said, which I'll be surprised, "Hey there Dalila" sucks pretty good.
