i got one of these last year for free, and it's what i'm using on my recent songfight entries (mine's not autographed, by the way. i just googled 'miller lite guitar' and this is the best picture i found.):

I'm guessing the idea is for it to be as ugly as posible? Free is always good. A can of paint stripper works wonders. Does it play well?

Paint stripper would NOT work on that guitar. It's a Squier, which means it has a polyurethane finish. Only aircraft-level strippers will take off poly. I tried some super-heavy duty stripper, and it didn't do a thing. So if you really wanted to take the finish off that, the only feasible way would be a palm sander, which is what I did.

So, to save all the trouble that I had to go through, I would say this:

Stickers, or spraypaint over what's there.

squire's aren't well-regarded by any means, so i doubt it, but i really wouldn't know. it does what i want it to, and it's a step up from my previous guitar, which i fear is slowly falling apart. it sounds nice to me.

as for the paintjob, i can't imagine caring enough to ever change it. plus if/when pumpkin buzzard performs live i think it will be a nice touch.

I just started a project guitar of my own. I'm stripping down an old Squier tele, refinishing it, and fitting it with decent pickups and hardware.

I started stripping the paint today. I am hoping to finish tomorrow.

Honestly, it's not really worth the money to put better pickups in a Squier.

Put the money that you would have spent on pickups (about $200 for a good tele setup) towards a good guitar. For $500 you can get some truly fantastic shit.

If you want a great guitar that won't hold it's dollar value for shit, but will work forever, get a Peavey. You can find good ones on Ebay for $200 that sell new for $1,000. With a hard case. Do a quick ebay search for a Peavey Firenza, Generation, Milestone, or a Cropper. Those are all fantastic guitars.

Just my opinion. 8)

Edit: oh, and you really shouldn't worry too much about sanding out the cavities. Just paint over 'em.

La Patrie Collection. Made in Canada. Solid cedar top, solid indian rosewood back. Laquer. Ivorex nut and saddle has been swapped out for bone. Sells most places for about $520. None of your goddamn business how much mine was.

Edit: Goddamn those frets are shiny (tip: polish your frets with cymbal polish. Just make sure to tape off the fingerboard, or at least be reasonably quick about cleanup)
