Hey, cheers for the reviews everybody. I'm gonna take a break and figure out what I'm trying to do for a moment, but it feels good to be comfortably mid-table :) so thanks.

and well done Anti-m, deserved i think.

awesome fight, folks! Congrats Anti-M!!! Let me know if someone doesn't send you full-band accompaniment for this song. I'd be willing to work something over for you.

Well, thanks guys and gals! (Today is my birthday, what a lovely surprise!) My song was certainly not MY favorite of the bunch, but it's awful nice that others liked it.

Well, how on earth am I gonna turn down an offer like that?? No obligation to follow through, but if you do, I'd be thrilled. I'll rerecord vocals for it if you like.

(Er... of course, anything will have to wait until after the gnu year... I'll be on songfight hiatus as I'm leaving town very soon to visit the 'rents for the holidays.)

Welcome to Songfight. People here routinely intentionally rip off songs and hide behind the fortune-cookiesque bullwangery of "Everything's been done before, so I don't feel bad ripping someone off".

Writing a melody that's already been written is nothing to be ashamed of, but hell, it's nothing to be proud of either.

Well well well, I got 3 votes. Guess I don't suck as bad as half of you thought lol... just kidding. I seem to be attracting a very split crowd. Some of you enjoy my work and some of you want to kill me. :D

Yes, that well known split - 165 people who didn't think enouhg of your song to vote for it, and three of your mates :) Self-delusion is a wonderful thing!

um Johnny....
this is Red Door fight. 168 people came to see Front (no surprise), only 59 people came to find out what's behind the red door.

But Rone's still delusional...To break that delusion, here is my favorite quote from a review of Rone's tune: "This is bad-bad".

IMHO, there is always room for experimentation in music. But it's experimentation which means that it's not always going to succeed. Rone, you didn't succeed this week. But who knows, maybe one day you will. Remember we hated Jute Gyte and Luke Henley when they both started Songfighting and experimenting....

the initial jute gyte backlash was mostly due in part to his association with lightning ear fart, and not really related to his music. his early songfights were pretty well received if i remember correctly.

and yeah, i wouldn't put jute and luke in the same category. sorry luke.

It was in part to his association with LEF. And many just didn't dig his experimentation. His Happy Machine Ankle wasn't that well received. His fanbase grew as time went on. There were some who dug his music from the get-go (JB, Jack, Dan, Sven, myself to name a few) but there were many ready to pan it because it was so different from the regular songfight thoroughfare. Now, he's accepted on the most part despite that.

Luke was the same way. His first few songs made some want to kill, especially because they were so against the norm. But his music has grown on many of us. (Not as well as Jute's has but still...)

Even when a person/band wins a songfight they get more non-votes than votes. It's not delusion. I just am gratful for the 3 votes I recieved. 3 people liked my song above all others. And 2 of the 3 were not friend votes. :P And I don't vote myself either. (actually I didn't vote at all this time... busy week.)

That's pretty harsh, man. I mean, they're your parents, but they're still your friends, too.

it wasn't that it was abnormal, it was that it sucked. and it has improved, or at least become more and more of a reasonable modest mouse facsimile, ten thousand percent.

ps - you might want to find a different reference point. I never listen to Modest Mouse and own exactly zero of their albums. Also why has a discussion about people thinking I suck or used to suck or don't suck as much now as when I used to suck come out of this?
