Stubby and the Dr. probably only need around 10 minutes, and we'd kinda like to go earlier rather than later... but we won't make it by 7:30 because of sitter issues. We plan on doing ~ 3 short songs -- just guitars and a mic -- maybe one of the keyboards -- so minimum setup time.

I'd like to suggest that all of us not attending Spudfest record greetings for Spud to be played throughout the event. Something along the lines of, "Hi, this is Ken from Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff. I'm sorry I can't be at Spudfest this year, but I wanted to wish Spud the best 50th birthday ever." You get the idea.

Spudfest's come and Spudfest's go
But the 50th Spudfest will be a hell of a show
I wish I could be there I really do
But my teleporter's bust and my brain is snafued
I'll just drink to your health with a gallon of ale
And say Happy Birthday Spud and fair winds where you sail!

HOLY HELL YOU GUYS.
Guess I'm the first to talk about the show! I went out for sushi with a coupla friends and then showed up at Zeitgeist, then fluffy came around, then Marvin and Laurie and their son came around and we started setting everything up. Spudfest was AWESOME and it is a tragedy that blue/ken/jack/glenn and rach/everybody else in the world that knows and loves Spud could not attend. My own set got some very favorable reviews (even though I screwed up a coupla times and my voice was not in the best shape of its life after some cigarettes and some ... well, you know what
). It was great meeting some other fighters and my body is now like broken. I was unable to sleep any longer than something like five or six hours, and so I got up and I am like a weakling child. Suppose I got hella exercise yesterday what with walking six or ten miles over the course of the day, bringing gear in, setting gear up, and then running around with Laura and a friend of hers for two hours later on. And the cigarettes and the you-know-whats. Anyway, as I have said in private many many times, I cannot say enough good about Spud. He was great on bass and background vox for me, and I am very grateful as well to fluffy, who drummed for me and is sponsoring my visit here to the whatever city: those five or six hours of sleep were on his futon here and this post is being written on his Mac Mini--besides that Spud, fluffy and I were playing together tonight with no rehearsal and they were both very good at quickly adapting to changes. particularly, I had no idea fluffy had such skill on the drums as is clearly the case (also, who was that bald drummer that played for fluffy and octothorpe? he was great! as was Octothorpe at large). Look for the video recordings, because you will be blown away. Thanks for, you know, being born and stuff, spud, I appreciate it.

WOAOAOAOAooo. That was great.
Birthday wishes totally fulfilled by spending the evening rocking out with Primitive Screwheads, fluffy, Marcus, Suzy 3, and Octothorpe, of course. Missed you other guys, but greetings from Ken and Jack were really cool. We played them pretty early in.
Thanks to the performers - Stubby Phillips and Doctor Water, Rabid Garfunkle and Albatross, Marcus Kellis, fluffy, Jarrett, the Pathetic Wannabees (I still have to get the lyrics for their Spud Song), Mad Dog, Crash, Great Dames, and Klownhole - especially Ralph - who got drafted to drum for both fluffy and Octothorpe. Those Klownhole Spudfest shirts were the shiznits. I hope there are good pics of those. If not, I will have to take some.
A really big shout-out to my pal Marvin, who not only supplied the beer as a birthday present, but ferried all the gear to and from the venue in his truck, and contributed substantially to the setup when I was late getting to the venue. Marcus and fluffy helped out an awful lot in this effort as well, and I thank them greatly. It was a big group effort, really, and I wasn't there for all of it, so I can't thank everyone who helped out individually, but Trevor helped with the loading and the palm trees. So thanks, man.
Thanks also to Marcus and Al (another pal) on sound. Couldn't have done it without them. Crash (also known as my wife, Amy) put in extra duty on the food prep, and Spudnut, Flea and Erika assembled the potatohead table decorations.
Big thanks go to the crowd, too. The turnout exceeded my expectations, and it was really fun to see a lot of old friends and family - some pretty unexpected. Even met a few new people, which is always good.
Anyway, yeah, a good time was had by all. Still looking forward to a day of unloading the truck and distributing stuff back to where it belongs. The good news is that under that pile of stuff in the truck, I understand the kegs are not quite empty!
It was a great birthday. Thanks again. Photos and video/audio to come.

I don't know what the emoticon is for the big smile on may face after reading the reviews of Spudfest. I'm glad it was a successful event.
