Thanks for the reviews everyone! Yeah i know its long, it's the soundtrack for my wifes art film. she couldn't use any copyrighted material so that it could be shown in some shows. She originally wanted to use radiohead's climbing up the walls, which i could never touch, sooo this is what i crapped out. I really wish i could have slowly built up tempo but garageband sucks the big one(i just realized how bad i got called out by liechty, ouch). But anyway the lack of faster tempo actually made it work really well in the film because the images get more and more intense and change quicker and quicker as the film goes on so it has a neat effect. thanks all cheers.

he's just jealous cos he can't write basslines that sound that phat :P (nobody ever gets cussed for using that 'classic' fender sound or anything do they?). On 1st listen your track grabbed me most out of all of them.

DISCLAIMER:
This is not a technical review, but an indication of where you have taken me.

Cheap Bastards
Nice noise, man. I am so in love. W00t! We could make beautiful music together.

Dangers
Yay! Hot stuff. I was pickin’ up change and spinnin’ a pizza pie throughout.

Dark Side of Archaeology
I could smell the stale incense and taste the well drinks from here.

Fish Sausage
Yeah! Diggin’ the mad skippity rhythms and the deep bass – OOOH this sounds SO good in my car, bumpin’ dis whilst rollin’ through the hood…

Flvxxm Florvm
Oooh – such pretty colors…yeah! You got a pair of balls!

Freddie Love
I could not listen to this all the way through. Appypollyloggies. Fucking beautiful. Cross over between Blow Monkeys and Elvis Costello – brings so much emotion and passion to the table.

Jim Tyrell
Go, baby! Oh, I absolutely love this. So dark, atmospheric, love the BGVs…such a soft voice for this…beautiful…wonderfully produced.

Kill Me Sarah
I gave you a cupcake for your Frito Lays. I have never been wherever you’re at, bro. Children are strange, and foreign to me. I never really was one…

Max the Cat
Oh yeah. “want to be an against your will thrill,â€

sarah - its like western.

poet - where is the screaming?

some now some later:

melvin - I thought the beginning was a little obnoxious, at first, but then i didn't mind. After it kicked in i was digging this. good

sailor matthew - ok i'm liking this. the guitar seems a little off, but it adds some atmosphere, i think. something missing, i'm not sure what. but anyway this would definetely not sound out of place on an album as long as there are no other songs that sound at all like this. i dug it! good

fish Sausage
- i'm not sure what i'm listening to. But its bothering me. I have a little pet peeve with "experimental" internet music i won't go into it right now. but try to make something that people other than you would listen to. music can be a vehicle for your own self expression but if you are going to share it with others at least take them into consideration. bad

cheap bastards - lots o noise. see above. bad

merisan - oooo i like this. I have this friend that is like 47(which just means that hes old and likes old music), me and him jam sometimes and this totally sounds like some of our stuff. just pretty, melodic, simple music. good+

freddie love - i know what this sounds like but i can't put my finger on it. but definetly listenable, felt a little thin. okay

slowRodeo - ME. This is the first electronic thing i have ever done. i've played with some vsti? instruments and loops before but this was my first real venture into it. I had alot of fun with this. I wanted it to be moody and sad. i will definetly do more of this stuff.

rattPoizon - nice false intro. i am always a sucker for false intro. Your stuff so far has been interesting for one listen. but never more than that for me. I think if you can make something i actually want to listen to more than once i will mail you myself in a cardboard box and hand you a wilted flower of your choice and then proceed to do a wicked death metal solo in your honor. But i dont see this happening anytime soon. Also i loved the change up towards the end. okaood.

kill me sarah - The musical genius that your name implies/refers to constantly leaves me expecting more from you than you provide. But as soon as i get thom yorke out of my head and listen to you properly/fairly then i see some hidden talent thats.. umm hiding and i feel like i will soon hear that potential realized. soo i hope this was encouraging. i did like this song, the bass needs to be sonically seperated from the guitar somehow they muddle eachother. but other than that. it works fairly well. okay.

produce - ok this is great. i come from a place that you wanna be from. great line, this was goood! contender!

So thats it for now; left to review:

max the cat
jim tyrell
screaming poet(i hope this isn't as lame as this name)
the Queso explosion
the dangers
The Dark side of Archeology
flvxxvm Florvm(can i have an mp3 of how to say your name)
thanks for the frisbee(I hope this is as good as your no,really)
smalltown mike

How much would I pay for these songs?

get yer currency converters out...

Cheap bastards: 44p
Dangers: 22p (nice yelling)
Dark side of Archaeology: 28p
Fish sausage: -10p (you'd have to pay me for this one)
Flvxxvm Florvm: 8 1/2p (good drumming this time though, was that jolly roger? good job)
Freddielove: ooh different. I'll give ya 50p for it (hypothetically  ).

they've all been really short so far :D excellent

Jimbob Tyrell: 51p (nice bongos)
KMS: 16p (sorry but i have to feed and clothe myself too)
Max the Cat: 5p, cheap as chips (some nice arpeggios)
practicing scales with Melvin: educational AND melodic. hmmm 51p
Merisan: 49p (I like e-bows but at no point in this song did I think that was what it really needed)
Produce: I already own the best element of this song, but much respect for using the Smiths. 6p (why make pseudo pop rap? it's the worst kind, you are capable of far better)
Quesadilla eXplosion: 9p (I was torn between giving this about 40 and 0, it's pretty good but I don't ever want to hear it, if that makes sense? basically, you've got the skills, now get an idea)
Rattpoizon: only a minute in.... £2 at least. by the solo, hmmmm £3, fuck it, what's your paypal account number? I'll fund your album
sailor matt: this appeals to my jangly nerve, 60p
Screaming poet: get a mic for the guitar. 42p
Slowrodeo: 72p
STM: 45p (but feel free to lay off the crunch for even a second)
Thanks for the Frisbos: very nice but the chords make me wish you sung more like morrissey. 62p

so, hmmm technically I should vote for Rattpoizon but I did really like the Slow Rodeo track. I hope neither of you get 0 votes cos then you'll never know that I didn't vote for you.
...and 3rd place: Frisbee - well done

"experimental internet music." Not.

CLASS IS IN SESSION

There are a variety of artists, labels and audiences that are dedicated to a variety of genres such as electronic, breakbeat, big beat, chemical breaks, techno, intelligent dance music (IDM), math rock, and math core.
Know it. Love it.

Big Beat, or sometimes Chemical Breaks is a genre encompassing that electronic dance music which tends to have deliberately artificial, robotic and repetitious drum beats mixed with sampled drum loops, or individually-sampled drums. A few notable artists which fall into this category are The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Monkey Mafia, Death In Vegas, Crystal Method, and The Prodigy.

IDM differs from other forms of experimental electronic music by the unconventional sequencing and audio processing techniques used in its production. Other similarly classified artists/projects include Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, u-ziq, Lisa Hall, Soul Coughing, European Bob, Wagon Christ, FC Kahuna, Expert Knob Twiddlers and Kid Spatula.

In a similar vein is Math Rock/Math Core. Musicians who purposely turn to mathematics to find new creativity in their music are also classified math rockers. They manipulate, twist and syncopate to confuse, to delay, to create something that is a twist on rock, punk, or pop, something familiar but "wrong," something new.

Breakcore is a loosely defined electronic music style that brings together elements of jungle, hardcore techno and IDM into a breakbeat-oriented sound that encourages speed, complexity, impact and maximum sonic density. Similar to punk or jazz music, breakcore does not adhere to a predefined set of stylistic 'rules', instead following a looser set of musical ideals. The very nature of breakcore is anti-establishment, often using production techniques or sounds to intentionally alienate the non-breakcore listener. Musically, breakcore is centered around the deconstruction and creative reassembly of common breakbeats from other music genres.

Just cause you don't understand what's going on
...don't mean it don't make no sense
And just cause you don't like it,...don't mean it aint no good

And if I offended you, Oh I'm sorry
But, maybe you needed to be offended
But here's my apology and one more thing...Fuck you!
Cause you can't bring me down
- Suicidal Tendencies

Cheap Bastards - cool sounds... until you try to sing. dude, is that soul coughing i hear? deffinately not friendly.

Dangers - Fuck yeah! diggin this hugely.

DSoA - impossibly muddy mix... the chorus has promise but I can't hear anything in the muck.

Fish Sausage - i've got a drum machine, i don't wanna to listen to yours...

Flvxxm Florvm - cool production! good idea, good singin', bad lyrics...

Freddie Love - Not at all my style... ok, i guess... but short as it is, i had to hit the 'next' button.

Jimmy Tyrrell - really nice tones... style choice not doin it for me...

KMS - man, your songwriting and production have taken a big step this week! My fav of yours so far.

Max the Cat - interesting at least... something about the vox bugs me but I can't for the life of me put it into words...

Melvin - Love it! that melody is kick ass. bad ass sounds as usual.

Merisan - Nice vocal blend. guitar solo could come up a bit. good production otherwise.

Produce - hand claps are way too hot. rap gots to be mixed with vox up front or at least loud enough to be intelligible.

Quesedilla - nice sounds, as usual. vox overdrive doesn't work for me except on the chorus 'response'. lyrics kinda iffy.

RattPoizunz - nice! the doo-wop thing is sweet... and with the enveloped bass it sounds like my fish tank/bong is talkin to me... funny, too. It shoulda stopped there... the ragametal is lame.

Sailor Matt - excellent guitar sounds and playin. sweet use of effects on the fast picky part... vox could stand to improve, but nice tune.

Screaming Poet - the lyrics are pretty cool. and the performances are great... it's a good song lost in horrible production. guitars need some mids or some other support, the vox need to be mixed more up front and you could pan em a bit when there are multiple tracks...

Slow Rodeo - Cool sounds that get old really quickly with no vocals. If vox come in i missed em... i could only make it to about 2:30 then hit 'next'

Smalltown Mike - kick ass sounds man. great lyrics and singin. it's pretty enough, but not indy enough, bro :)

Frisbee - I love the verse melody, man. ewww, the e guitar is too noodly. good idea though...

kk, tough choice this week. Favs are: The Dangers, Melvin and Smalltown Mike. I'm goin with Melvin...

This is really bad advice i think. i find that the more introverted the artist, the less derivative the production. you shouldnt ever have to bend your style to fit something you think people will like. just make what you want to hear. thats all that matters.

wow i totally got schooled. i can respect what you are trying to do now. I had no idea that that kind of music existed. i've always kind of lumped all electronic music together into one genre.

and as far as what liechty said I agree and i disagree. I find i often get misunderstood, but then after reading what you said i tend to agree that that was a rather tard thing to say. But on the other hand if someone completely follows that line of thought and never takes the time to think about an audience than why would they post it on the internet to share. why do that if you dont want advice, praise or crit that will one day possibly change the way you make music?

Thanks, man. Didn't mean to sound rough or overlyreactionary (future song title? Spud?) but I kinda suspected my aim was kinda out there for most present Fighters. I actually thought I had a shot at getting in the top three this week, but considering the Fighter base, it will be tough, if I remain in this vein.

That said, yeah, love the crit bc it makes me work harder, better. I am throwing out some experimental this month, but by experimental, I mean outside my comfortable genre. Get ready for some Spanish Opera, Baptist Funk/Soul, and I'll be goddamned if I don't try on some Rock and Roll for size. I will suck. This, I know. But it is territory that, for me, is heretofore untraversed. With all the great rockers in the Fight! right now, I expect to get slammed, and hard, because I know not what I do. But hey. Thick skin. I've seen Blue lurking in the forums. I shudder in fear and anticipation.

rest of my reviews. you may now scroll past my opinion:

max the cat - I think this isnt the first time i haven't gotten something max the cat did. But really "i want to tickle your satisfaction til it laughs into my mouth with curious gropes" is basically genius. Breaking my own rule i listened to this twice during review and liked it more. the background music didnt bother me as much. You have more style than i do and i applaude you for it. I dont think i would listen to it again though. good.

jim TyrRell - I like your sound and musically this is very good. But your lyrics are rather literal and really killing it for me. It seems like in this song you have half the package and no one ever wants half of anything. of course saying this opens me up for getting ripped apart, but if i cared you would have never read this. also notice i remembered how to spell your name. okay.

screaming poet - i like that guitar. I wish that strummed guitar had a little more power, but i dont know exactly what production technique would have accomplished this. i like your voice alot too but if you ryhme one more word im going to mail you a turd. seriously very predictable ryming scheme, for the sound i think you were going for the simplistic lyrics turned me off. okay.

The queso boom - this is good. my toes tapped. not memorable at all though and you must have liked your chorus, alot. really needed a hook or something to get stuck in my head. cause nothing did. okay.

the dangers - anyone like hot hot heat? not me. i know this sounds like someone else i'm sure, but thats who i thought of immediatly, and i cant stand them, at all. i wont give you a bad just for that though cause its over, wait a sec, whoa, that ended abrubtly. umm ok. anyway cause i dont know if you like them or if its intentional at all. nice effort, writing and recording an entire song with a full band in a week is an accomplishment no matter what. okay.

The dark side of archaeology - it's almost over and i havent written anything yet. Unless this some form of music i'm not familiar with this is stale and repetitive. bad.

flvxxvmflorvm - haven't we all been there, the friend zone. I read some people rippin on ya. i thought this was pretty good for one listen. I'm not downloading it but it was pretty good. you rocked. okay - good.

thanks for the frisbee - I really liked this, you are talented. You sound like an upbeat elliot smith, someone i really respect. This is the first song so far that used the title as a lyric that didnt sound super lame. so far i've downloaded two of your songs. keep up the good work. loved the melody during the line "plunge into the sea" really beautiful. Great.

smalltown mike - I want the line " i've got the vinyl and its final" printed on shirt. This was rockin and fun. not much to knock here. good.

There was some really cool r0k from new fighters, I thought, especially Dangers and The Quesadilla Explosion. I hope it keeps up.

Slow Rodeo
I see why you call yourself slooooow rodeo and not fast rodeo. This is a cool little groove, but not cool enough to warrant more than five minutes of pretty much the same loop.

Screaming Poet
I’d heard poets scream louder than this. Vocals need to be louder, as does everything. Some of the lyrics are clever, and some seem a little forced and obvious, but the groove is nice, and nice voice.

Rattpoizon
So much is promised, and then you fall into wankery. I think if the funky stuff was better done, it might have worked.

Melvin
If you’re trying to answer the question: “Can Melvin write a song that Smalltown doesn’t like,â€
Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.
