not a review.
poison sparrows did an awesome job. Love the guitar sound. like the progressions, recording is good. Vocals suit and sound awesome. You're getting my vote.
also influential
kanahele - i don't know why, but i like this. You are using all my favorite progressions and scales. There are nice sid-like noises. cool.
edit: i know why. because it does sound like a film score. I love this more and more with repeat listens.
Those meddling Kids - like the video game noises and d+b beats. Got repeat listens.
Jordan Seavers - Nice producion. pretty mellow goodness. Also got repeat listens.
Mr. Lost Man - I like the dub/ska sound. I would like to hear more from you along this line.

Reviews from the man with bees trapped in his organ.
Daddy Bop: I can't seem to get interested in this. I find it a little bland, everything just seems to fit together too well.
Desperato Video Juegos I have no idea what this is about, but for some reason I like it. Cool drums, too.
@eclectic spOOns: I like this, but I would have liked it is the samples made a more recognisable story of some kind.
Fish Sausange: I.... don't quite know what to say. Interesting change at 1:20.
Jolly Roger: I think you know your short comings and are working on improving them. With a little work, I think you could pull yourself up to the higher eshelons of SongFight. Good song, too.
Jordan Seavers: Dude, the intro to this grates me bad, but once the song really starts up, I quite like it.
Kanahele: Sorry, but boring.
Killer D: Hmm... you sound like the 12 year old kids who live next door to Sausage Boy. How's your mum doing? She's hot.
MMMC: I like your idea. The execution is a bit lacking. Which isn't a bad thing. I spent my formative years of SongFight with good ideas and shit music. And look where that got me! Just look, ho's everywhere!
Next Bedtime: What was said for MMMC also goes for you. Next!
Paco Del Stinko:Cool. Certainly a contender. I don't think I heard you say anything like Influencial Film, which is something I like.
Phunt: Hello Phunt! Film as in a thin surface, cool.
Poison Sparrow: Drums and guitar are cool. The piano seems a little odd, to me. Perhaps you should show us your organ.
The Seamus Collective: Nice song. I don't know what else to say. It's quite nice.
The Special Relatives: Weezer lost their recording equipment?
Stelloscuro: I just can't get into this. Sorry.
Those Meddling Kids: Wheeee! Charming. Charming and upbeat. I like the song when it picks up too.
Sausage Boy: Stupid Sausage Boy fact for the day. I have lost all my guitar picks, so the guitar is played using my watch wristband.
Not too sure. Paco Del Stinko and Those Meddling Kids are looking pretty good. Did I miss a song?

apes
Ray,
Thanks for posting that. I admit it would not have gotten my vote and I would have out it in the "not a song" category. But I am a fan of the ape s**t and enjoyed it very much.

Influential Film - Reviews
I don't know that anyone delivered a total knockout blow, but there sure were a lot of different textures in here. Fun.
Daddy Bop - I couldn't get this to play, but it is known that I can't do much, if that helps.
Desperato Video Juegos - I mostly like this. Good rhythm and key line. Much of that higher vocal could afford to settle down a bit. Lite, casual.
@Eclectic Spoons - Nice simple and effective layers not cramming themselves in. The samples are good and I like them when there's air around them although a couple of the back to backers work fine. Good n' driving.
Fish Sausage - I did not hear this with the video. Some sections, like the first minute-ish, are great. I do enjoy how it doesn't repeat any of the sections, but w/o film or lyrics, it feels quite incomplete. Sounds good though.
Jolly Roger - Nice and moody with more themes of loss. Good chord progression with scruffy guitar. The guitar accents bridge is very good, and I like the corny samples. Good song and ideas, just needs a spiffin'.
Jordan Seavers - You're own style, you make it sound so easy. 50/50 on the intro, it sounds like straining for breath and then...aah. Nice progression and melodies, good guitars there. Shy of perfect, but quite good.
Kanahele - I like this as it certainly sounds like it could be in film. I see it at the end of late 60's pyschological thriller, right when the shocking disclosure is presented. Gasp! Demented carnival music is some of my favorite.
Killer D - I like some of the groove and back vocs., but the main one is too inconsistant both level and confidence wise. Song feels incomplete, but what do ya want for doing it so quickly, eh?
MMMC - Must've been a lot of work gathering all of those samples, plenty of good ones, and used well mostly. I like the one-note bass under it all and some of the rhythms are great. Some of the vocals could be smoothed out but are arranged well.
Mr. Lostman - Very easy-going, this song breathes on its own as it's not forced feeling. Its genuine feel allow any wobbles or shaky parts to go next to unnoticed. Good mood captured and your singing is a big part of it. (duh)
Next Bedtime - Sped up Flash In The Pan vocals that could benefit from being recited less forcibly. There are some good lines in there too machine-gunned out. 80's music over 00's beats.
Paco - My 7th Songfight entry. Yup. It sure is.
Phunt, Don't Tell - Good concept with the eyes and film. This could be part of a dreamscape with um, Yoda. I like the quickly disappearing tones in the first ten seconds.
Poison Sparrows - Clean and tightly played w/ good layers not over done. Interesting take with good vocals and most lyrics. I like the piano much more than I don't, esp. where it supports the vocals. Excellent drum arrangement.
Sausage Boy - I like the ideas in here, they're just lacking direction. The result is quite unsettling, which although that isn't necessarily a bad thing, I don't usually look to get unsettled. Goes good in the mix of things though. I like the middle part and that you must be insane.
The Seamus Collective - Nice song well played and sounding super. It has a good genuine feel to it despite any very minor nicks it may have. Good layers and arrangement.
Special Relatives - This would be better if it wasn't this loose as there are whiffs of sweetness in there. C'mon out...come on! The song wants to whistle as it be-bops on down the road.
Stelloscuro - Way moody. It lacks a certain dynamic but is on the right track for what it's doing. A bit incomplete feeling.
Those Meddling Kids - I love how it's like nothing repeats itself, yet still holds itself together. Very active w/o being frantic. It may not be 100% sure where it is going, but it knows it's going somewhere. I like it.
I don't know who I'll vote for yet, but not myself as there are much better ones than mine. Secret ballot before the deadline. Good luck and cheers!

Daddy Bop - I always have trouble loading this... I'll check again later. okay, I just downloaded it and that worked fine. Big echo on the vocals. That's what happens when you record in confessionals. This is very smoothly put together. That's a pretty funky confessional. The bass sounds flanged out to a good degree out there in the right. I think that helps keep the song going forward. The echo on the vocals really is a little cheesy. Sometimes the volume is a little lower than I'd like it on the vocals too... but sometimes it gets a little too high (mostly because of the reverb). That's weird. The file is 3:something long but iTunes says it's 5:13. maybe that's why people are having trouble loading it.
Desperato Video Juegos - Sounds like Rone at the very beginning. And then zany silliness. Then that high voice sounds like a sample that was featured in a chop shop a while back. "cookin big easy style" the voice said. This seems really random, but the problem is that parts of it are a bit too normal in comparison to the rest. I feel like if you're going to be this weird, you should be ENTIRELY weird. Does that make sense?
@eclectic spOOns - The beat leaves me sayin' "eh" for large segments of the song where I sit back and think okay, this is gonna be that one part again while some relatively similar samples play. The Jenny sample from Gump is pretty creepy when it shifts volume which is nice. A lot of the other samples don't gain as much from repetition though. I think a lot of this washes over me as pretty predictable after the first minute. The samples show a bit of humor which is nice since the song would probably sound way too serious if you'd only chosen quotes that sounded badass or serious. But I don't know that the techno really reflects that humor at all.
fish sausage - I keep missing the beginning of this because it transitions pretty well from the song before it. It'd be a nice unexpected break from the techno spOOn until IT BECOMES THE VERY TECHNO I WAS TAKING A BREAK FROM. But you can't control what comes before you. Immediately, the samples strike me as more soundscapey and the shifting levels and panning of the beat makes this a more ambient track. The big changes at 1:20 and 1:45 seem a little unconnected but I like that the beat comes back in the third part. That does some work toward connecting the different segments. You capture a lot of movie score aspects in this music, but I don't know if the abrupt changes really do justice to movie scoring or this song. Maybe if the changes were more marked/denoted by some extraneous sound or volume shifts... it seems like that would make it more abrupt, but abrupt in a more appropriate way. I'll come back and review this in relation to the video later, maybe.
jolly roger - If this was polished and just a little more dynamic on production side of things, I think it would sound a lot like some of the heavy hitting pop songs on songfight. I like the vocal pacing although it's very predictable by the end and not exactly in a good hook kind of way.
Jordan Seavers - You have some awesome entries. I think the intro could stand to gain from being even more synthtastic. See Jute Gyte's Fire Bomb intro. I like the static hits that come in so prominently later in the song. Very controlled and deliberate. It's weird that the back up vocals are panned left alongside the back up melody right around 1:50-2:00. It's nice. It still sounds balanced despite that weird concentration of sounds over there. Does this remind anybody else of 40 second songs? like at that end part especially. Did you ever? Did you ever? mm.
kanahele - The abrupt beginning is an interesting choice that makes it seem more videogamey. Like when it pauses the midi because I go through a door but it starts up in the exact same part of the loop where I left off when the new screen loads. Those funny little fake drums are cool. This song actually does something around 1:00 with the big fake drums and even though I kind of zoned out on the first couple listens, there is some interesting stuff going on in this drawn out lull of 3/4. And I like the high melody at 2:00. I'd definitely enjoy a game with this song in it if the game managed to match the shifts in pacing and energy of the song. I don't know why you titled this Influential Film. And I don't know why you decided to end it the way you did, given the abrupt beginning. Is this ending really called for? NOTE: It might be WMP that's cutting out the beginning of your song. So ... grains of salt.
killer d - Ya, ya, ya, what, ya, what what, what, wot, ya, what, now,.. ah, real lyrics. I can't hear them though. The back up is clear. Get closer to the mic, I think. If you don't want to buy a popscreen, you can find a girl's stalking and stretch it over a wire coathanger. Bend it and hold it over your mic and it works really well. I don't think the volume shifts have a clear purpose in the song, so I'd try to make the mix more consistent. Very repetitive music.
MMMC - The reverb on your vocals seems a little cheesy without adding much to the mix. It sounds like you just arbitrarily chose a decay preset and didn't check what you could really do with the mix. The samples are okay and I occassionally laugh (like at the yoda one). No real driving force that threads the song together. Just guys chatting to a beat. On the few listens where my wind wanders and I come back, I'm never lost and thinking "whoa, what could have possibly brought this song here?".
Mr Lostman - I don't know about the pacing on wanted in "I only wanted to hold you close to me." Also a lil' pop at the beginning (:29). The lil' solo after the chorus is fine, but the weakness of your "ho ho ho"s really gets bashed over my head in such a bare soundscape. I think that's because this is a song that's supposed to be sad despite it's JAUNT JAUNT JAUNT quality. Slow fade outs are lousy unless there's a really good reason. It's like a confession that the song doesn't have a reason to end. Good Morning, Wake up! Sunnydale, Ohio? That's a weird tag.
Next Bed Time - I like the vocal mix, and how awkward the vocals are at first. But it starts sounding really forced around that but ya I know the house rule part. The beat's not really changing at all. Forlorn rhyme seems unlikely. The left string(?) instrument is hard to hear. The melody is sort of too simple to carry the song musically for me. The use of the sample for rhythm is neat but not enough to carry me for several repetitions.
Paco - hehehe. Cool riff after the terrible microwave/behave business. I like the shift into the chorus a lot. Just a great vibe. The vocals are pretty ridiculous. I like how much this changes around. Even the repetitive vocal melodies stay interesting because they're so weird. Cool riffs throughout. The chorus really reminds me of something but I can't figure out what. I feel like it was a Saturday morning cartoon theme. Like for Danger Mouse or something... but it's not Danger Mouse.
Phunt; don't tell. - weird. It cuts off the first halfsecond of my song in wmp. streaming in iTunes is troublesome. I dislike realplayer. Respectable alternatives?
Poison Sparrows - badass. oooohhh oooohhh oooooooohhh This reminds me of how I liked your ability to talk about slaying dragons, STM. I like the spunky little chorus as an interruption to the grittiness of the verse vocals and the bowbowbowbowbowbow guitar. The song loses my attention by the end... I like the little interplay between the two vocalists at 2:24. Putting them that close together really does something nice.
Sausage Boy - hehe, cheesy. Could use some actual pots and pans to go along with that silly-sounding percussing. The vocals could be differentiated from the rest of the mix a little more. Some strange changes in here that I have to think about. The back up vocals in that one section sound so hollow. Like you totally blocked the space between your mouth and the mic and only recorded the echo of your singing. This is long and the separate parts are very disparate while internally repetitive.
The Seamus Collective - Pretty-sounding. The electric is a nice and needed presence. As are those backing vocals. I like those back ups better when they're present at the same time. The vocals sounded a little worse when they were by themselves, unpaired with that electric guitar. The song is a little left-ear heavy after that solo. This is very smooth.
The Special Relatives - I'm not sure, but this might be brilliant. At the very least, this is fun and what the hell is going on?. Certainly, the fact that it's listenable while this far out of everything timing-wise is impressive. If I never come back and complete this review, you can hound me for it through pms. ... through PMs. Not through PMS.
stelloscuro - This pretty much languishes on the one very low-energy, brooding level. That guitar sounds like it wants to scream, but it's not screaming. It's just kind of making very extreme facial expressions while it sits there, brooding. Very draining.
TMK - Another what the hell is happening song. Interesting! Lots of listens to this too. Such weird breaks. But nobody saw Titanic!? Oh, and thought... lots of enjambment like that. Also musical enjambment where the blip bloops decide to cut a phrase short. It's very strange and keeps me in the song. You also really do an amazing amount with your vocals all limitations considered. As deliberate-sounding as Jordan Seavers' entry, but with an extra quality of falling apart or bursting at the seams. Or something.
Or something.

alright some long overdue reviews. Like everyone else said, nothing really gosh-wow here. but some good stuff.
Daddybop: everything in here is pretty bland. There are certainly parts i like. The bass is excellent and so is the rhythm guitar. The lead guitar kinda doesnt fit. Everything just fits in its place... nothing too spectacular. It wants to rock.... maybe bring up the drums and put more snare hits instead of rim clicks.
Desperatovideojuegos: I really love the beginning of this. The voice and the beat coming in really get me ready for what should be an awesome song. The high voice is really annoying. The beat is pretty good and the wierd computer voice is a funny touch. The high voice is only funny at times. Your normal voice makes this sound like beck and i like that. Okay overall, good song.
Eclectic Spoons: Its like a musical version of name that film. Granted I don't know many of the samples i do catch a few. The techno trance thing is a bit grating after a while. This would probably be great in the club but here.... not so much.
Fish Sausage: the windup?..... "music please" exactly what i was thinking. I love the panned drums. However this could use some vocals or something to keep my interest. I saw the video, nicely done. Never seen eraserhead maybe i should to better enjoy this.
Jolly Roger:your voice is kinda buried. Nice drum sound. The guitar is a bit dirty and doesnt quite work though. The drums are a bit too prominent bring the vocals up. Whoa... why did the drums drop? i like the far far backing vocals during the chorus. Guitar solo break section is nice. Overall not bad, just needs some reworking and it could be great.
Jordan Seavers: ah i feel so relaxed during this opening, this is great. wow, this is really good. your voice fits perfectly sounds kinda like ben gibbard. I kinda dont like the scratch/static sound in the chorus but its forgivvable cause the rest of this song is great. Good job. You win the "should i vote for myself when i know this is better?" award. congrats
Kanahele:makes me think of castlevania.... okay now intense castlevania. It does sound like music from a video game cutscene. Wish this had vocals, they would save this. Still pretty jaunty and haunting.
Killer-D: Do you make your own beats? sound like a my first casio keyboard and drum machine. nice female voice out of nowhere. Sounds like a real person tryin to sound like a sample very interesting. With some work your gonna be really good.
MMMC: Well thank you for the compliment at the beginning ("everybody online looking good") You've got good rhythm and flow. Just the words arent that great, especially when you try to set up a sample like the scarface sample and dirty harry thing later. The different rappers sometime dont match up with eachother. your a pretty motley group of rappers some cohesiveness could help like a chorus or something.
Me (Mr. Lostman): Okay first, the tags are indeed my real band sunnydale ohio. WE just finished making our homemade CD. Th tags must have stuck around when i made this song. Sorry everybody. Whoever said this sounds like everything going on in the UK right now, i realized after wrting this that i think i stole the verse progression from the arctic monkeys so your very right. and finally, no i don't own a real bass, that is indeed my guitar with the tone all the way down. WE makes due with what we got. This was fun to make.
Next Bedtime: What is that voice saying at the beginning? your voice sounds kinda rushed at times and it hurts the song. The keyboard part is interesting but the drum beat is pretty generic. your vocal rhythm needs some work but i like the keyboard hook.
Paco Del Stinko: After listening to this a few times i dont see how this fits the titles. I'm starting to think your music is partially influenced by drugs. This song is moving at about a mile minute between parts. How is this song called "influential film"? You've indeed got some crazy ideas and cool instrumental ideas, but this needs to be more about the title.
Phunt;dont tell: "are you even listening".... im trying man but i dont know what im listening to. is that dr. ruth? i got nothing.
Poison Sparrow: wow you say film a lot at the beginning. oh catchy chorus. Nice lead guitar line. This is getting better. You sound kinda like Isaac Brock, maybe thats just me. This is actually pretty good. Started off questionably but it gets better. Are the drums real? They should be if they aren't, they sound pretty good. I like the chorus singing better than the verses but thats probably cause its in the major key. Nicely done.
Sausage Boy: what is goin on here? The percussion fits well into the wierd soundscape you've created here. However, im not finding anything memorable about this song. What is that sound thats like a howling wind?
Seamus Collective: ooohhh.. marchy drums. They sound good. i like your voice. Its flawed here and there but it works oh so well with this music. This is like an end of the night song. Good backing vocals. Okay at about 1:30 this wants to rock but it doesnt quite bring it. something about the lead line and the soft distorted guitar need to come out more to make that rock a bit more. The strings addition is good. I love your lyrics. Very well done.
Special Relatives: nice old vinyl feel. Your vocals certainly sound "special". I like the music including whatever that is in the background that sounds like bells... oh its the lead guitar. Your vocals dont work for me, but i do enjoy your music. you sound like an old timey country group.... whos drunk off thier asses in the studio.
Stelloscuro: This is sadly pretty bland. The crashes lose thier meaning if you use them that much. Good lead guitar line there. but the music itself is pretty bland, needs more prominent bass.
Those Meddling Kids: pretty lively especially the strings and vocals, the keyboard in the right speaker holds the reins back a little bit. "too busy watching titanic, but nobody watched titanic"? what does that mean? I like the second voice "get in our heads". The first time i listened to this i didnt like it. For some reason now i think its great. damn im enjoying this. Nicely done. nice way to end the fight.
Okay so all in all. Sorry bout the tagging mishap guys. Kudos go to TMK, Seamus Collective, Desperate Video Juegos, and Jordan Seavers. Votes probably goin to myself this week though, sorry. [/b]

FYI Lostman,
Paco's song is about cling wrap. The thin plastic film you can use to preserve food, oil paints, etc.
TMK's verse goes
but nobody watched Titanic/and thought to tell a story/about ships disintegrating/because it's been done better/blah blah
It's a long run-on and an intentionally misleading linebreak. This song really just sounds like you put a rant/lecture to music, which is cool.
I still don't hear the Castlevania soundtrack's connection though.

Fun fight, as always. Here are the pieces that compelled me to pause my housework and comment.
Poison Sparrows -- all right! I like.
Phunt -- I've heard lots of your pieces in my infrequent visits to SongFight, but something just clicked in my brain. I'm with you now, Phunt.
Jordan -- I like, too. You know, my head's been buried in jazz and Trio Los Panchos for about three months now, and I think this song has single-handedly brought me back into present day indie. We'll see if it lasts. 2nd listen: I like more.
Seamus -- Man, you are so handsome! Do you have a girlfriend?
I saw this week's title, and I said, "Hey, Ross! Write this song," and he did, and then we -- Evil-E, Ken and I -- added our stink on it. I predict any votes this song gets will be due in large part to Ken's production.
MMMC -- I'm impressed by the stamina of this one. How'd you get Moe Green to spit up on your track?
Daddy Bop -- Nice bass throughout.
Jordan, Poison Sparrows or Kanehele? Jordan, Poison Sparrows or Kanehele? Hmm.

Hey everyone. I've been watching songfight for about 3 years now, and this is my first entry. boy did i pick a week to enter! there are some incredible contenders this week!
daddy bop - i really like the intro. i think there's a little too much reverb on the vocals. besides that i cant really find anything wrong with it. i just can't seem to get into it, though there are no real problems with the song.
Desperato Video Juegos - the vocals don't really catch me at all. it's a little too random. the beat is pretty cool.
eclectic spOOns - the whole trance stuff seems a little generic, and there are too many samples jammed in. i have to admit, i really love it when it goes "who the f_ck is this _sshole!"
Fish Sausage - the beginning is cool... wait.. is going anywhere? woah. these random style changes are freaking me out. i like each of them individually, but they don't lead into each other very well.
Jolly Roger - i like it. the vocals could be redone a little bit. sometimes you try to jam too many words into a measure. the guitar/bass/drums could be a little more forward in the mix. good song!
Jordan Seavers - the swelling synth in the beginning is cool. wow holy crap. this song is incredible. i don't think this could be any better. very well thought out. the lyrics are good, as are the twinkling guitars and synths. i'm hooked
Kanahele - this is my first entry. i thought this song was due a week before it actually was. i must have seen it just as it was posted. anyways i tried to go for an actual soundtrack feel, rather than sing about a film or relate anything to it. it's a little rushed and basic, but i kind of like it that way.
Killer D - they keyboard over the lofi drums is cool. it's playful. i like your voice, but i haven't actually heard you say anything. if you had more to say, i think this song would be pretty sweet.
MMMC - i'm not really feeling anything that's going on. it just doesn't... sorry. the section with the beavis(butthead? i suck) was surprising. that's the only part i really like.
Mr. Lostman - the part where you say "i only wanted to hold you close to me" has too many syllables in it. the rest of he lyrics are good. wow a reggae section! nice! i just played at a ska show, so i'm really feeling this. there's alot of good ideas going on. the vocals harmonies are a little rough. overall, this song is great.
Next Bedtime - this is good. a little variation on the drumbeat would be nice. just a little though. i think a different effect on the vocals would make it better match up with everything else thats going on.
Paco Del Stinko - is this about plastic wrap? this song is hilarious. i can't find anything wrong with this. the guitar solos are great, as are the vocal harmonies. the chorus is catchy. the whole song is catchy. A+
Phunt dont tell - i don't understand what you're talking about. no i don't like what you have here.
Poison Sparrows - i love these lyrics. the verses remind me of dismemberment plan. which is good. hmm... yes
Sausage Boy - the casio-ish drums are.. interesting, at best. i can't tell what you're saying during the chorus. i don't really like this song...
The Seamus Collective - great!! the vocals get a little shaky at times, but it's forgiveable. it adds character. lyrics are great. i don't really like the soloing guitar in the background, and the flams on the snare are a little repetative. this is really good though. A
Special Relatives - for some reason, the more i listen to this song, the more i love it. it sounds like something the unicorns would do. i like the uneven vocals. the ending is great.
Stelloscuro - your voice is really interesting. i like it. the song doesn't really catch me, though.
Those Meddling Kids - everything in this song is great except for the vocals. it doesn't bother me too much though. i think if you re-recorded it, the song would be a pure gem! at 1:35, i just die... it's so good. A+
i think i'm gonna have to go with jordan, but there are definitely some others very close behind
