You called me over here buttwipe, specifically to harrass Lunkhead.

I think you did it because you were bored. Who wouldn't get bored in a "community" set up as such. you have been here 4 or 5 years blue. There is no future for you. It's another stoopid title and another review. And no hope of ever implementing innovative ideas.

Blue, you blow. And Songfight drones on.

It's one of those New-Age probably-nonscientific alternative medicine methods... you're supposed to treat problems with the same thing - this example I heard was for someone that is allergic to cats to touch one while somebody massages their spine, or some such thing. You can read about it on the wiki if you want.

...but really I was just engaging in some wordplay for fun ;)

it was a serious question. obviously, this community isn't interested in democracy. we are apathetic to the concept of a democratically run songfight.

so what's the cure. democracy isn't a self-fulfilling or even a natural process. it's the result of compromise and altruism. so where's our motivation?

Why should a privately owned site have to be a democracy? It's great if they want to, but not a requirement. I'm just asking.

Why should it be owned by two members instead of all the members?

You ought to have retained at least 50% of your members. But seriously, what worthy member would invest in a community that does not need them. Songfight doesn't need anyone except the adms. whereas a constitutionally formed community rotates it's membership through leadership roles.

I just think you're nuts. That's why I never took you seriously.

Who decided this? It might be hard to believe, but I am a member of some other forums. One i am a member of is democratically run, much like the format you suggest, and I think it only retains around 30% of the members that sign up. Then there is another forum I am a part of, privately run like this one, where the retention is something like 80%.

Do bots count towards the total numbers?

Just for ha ha's...

This isn't a community. It has no members. It's barely even a forum.

Anyone can come in and submit a song and have it posted on the page and then change their pseudonym and do it again, or leave and never come back, or whatever. Seriously, whatever. There is no membership. It is all inclusive. That's not a community. It's an open pavillion.

People come and go. There can be no voting because there can be no voting registration. The "voting" on the main page is on the honor system entirely and is sometimes hijacked (for whatever reason). It would be impossible to transform this loose collection of websites as it currently exists into a functioning capitol of a functional democracy.

It would be possible to formalize a registration process, keep track of privileged "members" for voting, establishment of a quorum (an odd concept online, though), discussion procedures, "legislation" procedures, etc. Possible but bizarrely difficult. Which is why the main proponent of the idea has, after more than a year of occasionally lecturing us about it, been unable to offer a draft of such a "constitution". He can't. He's not smart enough, has nowhere near enough vision, and isn't personally involved in the goings-on here to care enough.

The activities generated by the "grass roots" in the Sidefights and Highlights thread are also all inclusive. And on IRC. And in PM's here. And in live events and informal gatherings. There have been 2 marriages through this site since I've been here. Every week for over 7 years, people have been using this resource to do interesting things and learn a lot about songwriting, performance, and music production. Which is the reason there is a lot of "apathy" around here.

Someone thinks it sucks mud, but obviously searches this bulletin board for "gripe" and "oust" frequently. Which is a fine way to spend your time, I suppose. Though I prefer songwriting.
