Good morning everyone! I just read the posts in yesterday's Roll Call that happened after I went to bed last night. Real name vs message board name is a funny thing to me. I don't know why Phil and I decided to be so blatant about our names here. I guess I ams what I ams!
I think for the first week or so of me posting here at SF, my message board name was Heathybear (which is one of Phil's lovey names for me), but I changed it after Jack Shite called me Healthybear.
I'm so freakin' glad it's Friday... and we have a long weekend coming up! We have no "Memorial Day" type plans like BBQing or whatever, but it sure will be nice to have an extra day.
Last night I watched 2 episodes of my season one Ally McBeal DVD. I love that show! Who knows what today brings. Bagel Friday, Casual Friday, Free Thinking Friday. Yep.
Here's kind of an off the wall QotD:
If someone, who's never been to where you live, was coming to visit and you got to play tour guide, where would you take them?
I just looked at the clock and realized I better get ready for work. I will answer the question from there! See ya in a bit!

At work. Late night last night, playing with Bob King at Walter's Basin in Holderness. No shows tonight. I think we're gonna have a campfire out in the back yard.
This weekend, my parents are hosting a Memorial Day Weekend Yard Sale. I'll do that by day, and play shows at a couple local campgrounds by night.
QOTD: If someone was up in my neck of the woods, and I had to take his/her on a tour, it would depend on his/her inclinations, I guess. Outdoorsy people would probably like to see Livermore Falls, or climb Rattlesnake Mountain (a .9 mile hike with a great view). But if I had my way, I'd take 'em to Funspot. Bowling and old-school video games.

I'm doing that very thing this weekend for Frankie and his wife.Heather. Redmon. wrote:If someone, who's never been to where you live, was coming to visit and you got to play tour guide, where would you take them?
We're going to see a baseball game, the museum, the aquarium, and the Atlanta Jazz Festival which happens to be going on this weekend. Herbie Hancock is playing. If there's any spare time we may go to the Decatur Arts Festival, which is also this weekend.
Other than that, I hope to give them a few hours of relaxation in my neighborhood. Shopping at the stores nearby, eating at the restaurants I go to all the time, so they can remember what it's like here when they talk to me on the phone.

First off, pleased to report that our group was excused from jury duty about 2 pm yesterday... the reason that the trial is going to last so long was that it is a first-degree murder trial, with the death penalty as a possibility at the end. The defendant is accused of sexually abusing and drowning the five-year old daughter of his live-in girlfriend. Real-life Luke Henley stuff. I'm quite happy not to have to be involved in this... and to have the next several weeks of my life back. I keep a journal on my computer, and I've gone through the next several weeks and added a reminder every Monday: "if you were on jury duty, your week would be entirely booked up right now. don't waste it!"
Jim: when I was in Nashua a few years ago, two things I really enjoyed were the boat ride around Lake Winapausaukee and driving through NH and VT and stopping at all the antique stores and going through the used books. Right around Y2K, I found a book called "The Marvelous Record of the Closing Century," which was published in 1899, and was all about all the wonderful things that happened in the 19th century and the high hopes and expectations of the 20th. Five bucks.
People coming to Phoenix usually ask about the Grand Canyon, but when we tell them it's a six-hour drive each way, they usually decide to pass. Mostly we do favorite restaurants, maybe a drive through the desert and a short hike. Most of the people who come to visit us in Arizona come here with the expectation of a restful, quiet visit. So we generally don't try to run around and see/do a lot of things unless people tell us that's what they want...
New titles still aren't up...
Hey, Mr. Fightmaster, I'm falling into the songfight gap here!

Tours: I have often taken people to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Also the plethora of things in DC, e.g. Smithsonian, national monuments, etc. For the outdoors-type person, there is good hiking and a bit of bouldering at Catoctin Mountain Park (Wolf Rock, specifically).
Hey, good news, KA!

It's Friday, can I get a WhOoP wHoOp?!
The last day before the Holiday weekend
We finished up our customers pool yesterday on time
Starting it up in about an hour
Their guests will have a warm pool and hot spa
It came out beautiful
I get such a good feeling seeing one of my designs finish up so great
My stress level went down to zero as we finished up.
But Nur Ein R3 has it back up to around 7 (0-10)
I need to put my nose to the grindstone tonight
Need everything ready for my guest vocalist tomorrow
QOTD:
Well, most out of State visitors want to go to the beach
I'm very happy to take them body boarding or surfing if they are up for the challenge
Salt Creek in Dana Point CA is a great beach for beginners
I don't surf there, but I started there and it always brings back great memories
Then I'll take them out to the lake for some Wave Runner fun and wake boarding. I'm holding the board I won, in that pic.
Of course no visit is complete with out a day at Sea World
Then the San Diego Zoo is always a hit
I really don't like Disneyland, but it is a must
A few donation supported nature spots
The Tucker Wildlife bird sanctuary.
The Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach
We have to hit Knott's Berry Farm, I love Knott's and so does everyone I take there
If they like baseball, Ahaheim Stadium to see the Angels play
I always take guests to my favorite restaurants, usually family owned places on the beach
Of course, every guest gets a BBQ in their honor at Casa De Trip
Followed with a nice pit fire, marshmallow roasting and acoustic guitar jam
Live, Love, Rock!
Chris
edit: My Nur Ein stress just dropped to 3 with the new deadline.

Good day everyone.
The first place I take a visitor depends alot on who that visitor is.
However, assuming I was visiting myself from out of town:
First place would be <a href="http://www.monsvenus.com/" target="resource window"><b>Mons Venus</b></a>. (World Famous)
Second place would be <a href="http://www.ybor.com/" target="resource window"><b>Ybor City</b></a>. (historic/party district of Tampa)
sub: <b>Tampa Bay Brewing Company</b> (Restaurant / Brewery)
Of course I'd be forced to take myself to <a href="http://www.beachchamber.com/" target="resource window"> <b>Clearwater Beach</b></a>. on the other side of the bay.
But while I was on that side of the bay, I'd take myself to a couple of <a href="http://tampa.creativeloafing.com/gyroba ... icsPick=no" target="resource window"><b>eclectic coffee shops</b></a> and then see a decent band at <a href="http://www.stpete.org/StateTheater.htm" target="resource window"><b>The State Theater</b></a> and a beer at <a href="http://www.myspace.com/emeraldbar" target="resource window"><b>The Emerald afterwards</b></a>.
If it were my folks:
...yeah...uh... maybe the <a href="http://www.salvadordalimuseum.org/home.html" target="resource window"><b>Dali museum</b> </a>in St. Petersburg....bowling?
(There are actually alot of places..too many to mention...we have a decent aquarium here as well - lots of night life)

There are so many wonderful things to see and do here in the Twin Cities. I know way more about Minneapolis than I do about Saint Paul… but that’s what the internet is for!
I love to play tour guide and have a great list of attractions, but I do try to tailor my tour to the interest of the visitor.
In Minneapolis we usually visit:
• Saint Anthony - Main and the Saint Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River with a gorgeous view of the Stone Arch Bridge and the Hennepin Ave. Bridge.
• Cross over the Hennepin Ave. Bridge and into downtown Minneapolis, up Hennepin through the Warehouse District with all the old buildings that still haven’t been torn down yet and through the Theater District.
• A walk down Nicollet Mall (a street closed to cars and lined with shops and cafes) with a stop at the statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her hat at the spot she did in the opening of the show.
• Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden for a look at the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry and the spectacular view of downtown. Maybe a walk across the Whitney pedestrian bridge to Loring Park.
• Uptown Minneapolis with a walk down Lake Street past all the shops and cafes to Lake Calhoun.
• A drive around the lakes and a look at all the mansions in that area.
• A trip to the Mall of America
Favorite places to take people to eat: If they’re hip, it’s fun to have lunch at Hell’s Kitchen. If they like Mediterranean food, it’s fun to eat at Emily’s Lebanese Deli. If they’re into Polish food, Phil likes Kramarczuk’s.
I also like to take people to Stillwater, MN. It’s about a ½ hour drive and it’s a little town on the St. Croix River. Wisconsin is on the other side of the river. Stillwater was the first actually settled town in Minnesota. It’s full of antique shops and cute restaurants.
In Saint Paul we usually visit:
• The State Capitol
• A drive by the Cathedral of St. Paul
• The riverfront – maybe a paddleboat ride on the Mississippi
• The Summit-Grand Ave. Victorian mansions - Birthplace of F. Scott Fitzgerald
• Mickey's Diner
If are visitors come during the Stat Fair, we'd definitely take them to it. It's the largest State Fair in the country!
If the person visiting (like my mom) is really into Little House on the Prairie (like I was as a child) I might take them to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, MN – outside of Mankato and Sleepy Eye.
I’d really love for someone to visit us in the fall so we could drive north to Lake Superior to see the leaves. I’ve never been up north here in MN, but everyone tells me I’ve got to go!
Sorry for the long post, I just really like showing off the Cities!
I just realized, with all the links, none of you have to come and visit us now.

Today is Nur Ein guitar day, and I believe I have frightened the workers at the house next door. You know, you have the headphones on and they can only hear the weird part you're blasting over and over..."man, that guy sucks!" Not that I haven't heard that before.
The Stink rarely touches fried food these days, but it's fried clams this evening. There are two places nearby, and across the street from each other. One's in Mass., the other in New Hampshire. I believe tonight we chow in the Bay State. God save the Commonwealth!
Pale in comparison travel Dept: I live in a small beach town which gets packed, for around here, in the summer with families, teens, and French Canadians. Not my cup 'o tea, exactly. (No offense if you fall into any/all of those categories) It can be, however, a cheese-tastic people watching spot. But nestled quietly nearby is http://www.fullergardens.org/FullerGardens/ Tucked away from the insanity of the beach. Or we could go to the slummy bars at skanky Salisbury beach. Salibury is where you would most likely end up at the end of the night for "beach pizza" anyway. I'm buyin' if you're drivin'.

Hm, I live in a very historical-y place.
Valley Forge is where Washington and his troops hung out in the freezing cold while the British were living it up in Philadelphia.
King of Prussia mall is the biggest mall on the East Coast
Devon Horse Show (actually happening this weekend!) is the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed horse show in the U.S. Ooh la la.
Wayne is 14 miles West of Philly, and is sort of the local "hang out". The corner where Cold Stone is was cursed for a while (all of the shops that have been there in the last few decades have gone out of business within a year. Cold Stone broke the curse, those corporate whores). VFMA is also located in Wayne, so there are lots of boys wandering around in uniform (Taps was filmed there!)
If you're into trees and seeing where I first kissed a boy, you can go to Jenkins Arboretum.
If you're creepy you can drive past M. Night's house.
Yeah, my area's real cool
Today was pretty boring. We're watching City of God in Lit and Film, which is sort of... uncomfortable. Y'know, watching rape, drug use, shooting kids, sex, guns all over the place, all while sitting with your friends and teacher.
